The objective of this video is to discuss the use of the rules of exponents to simplify expressions with exponential functions. Three examples are presented:
Example 1 : (2x^2)^2(3x)^2
Example 2: (10 x^4)^0 (3 x^4)^3
Example 3: (-4 x^4 y^2)^2 / ( 2 x y)^3
The main rules of exponents reviewed and used are:
x^n x^m = x^{n+m} multiply terms with exponents
x^n / x^m = x^{n-m} divide terms with exponents
(x^n)^m = x^(n * m) raise terms with exponents to the power
x^0 = 1
