Ready to bling out your kitchen, living room, dorm room or bedroom? Then you'll love the ECOLOR Smart LED Strip Lights. I walk you through all the functionality of the 2 * 16.4-foot lights, then demonstrate how they work atop my kitchen cabinets. Suffice to say, it's pretty dang cool, and at an incredibly low price, particularly for app control through your smartphone too. App-controlled LED strip lights that'll brighten up any space
0:04
Let's check it out. Dave Taylor here, and I'm checking out this
0:14
This is the E-color Smart LED strip light. This is the two-time 16.4 feet LED strips
0:23
It also comes in 25-foot, 33-foot, 50-foot, and 65-foot-compet. combinations and I will warn you right up front, you ain't supposed to do it this way
0:34
because by having them all tightly coiled together on this, it generates heat
0:39
But it will work well enough for us to do the demo. So here's what this includes
0:45
It includes a remote control. You can see this and this makes it really easy to change it to green, for example, green or blue
0:55
And then there's a bunch of different modes and obviously you can turn it off and on
1:00
perhaps the most important feature. And you don't have to worry about the remote control
1:04
because it also comes with an app. This has a Bluetooth system in the inline controller
1:12
In fact, it also has these inline controls. There's a lot going on with this device
1:17
So with in line, I can push buttons and step through modes
1:21
I can change brightness levels. I hope you can see all of that going on
1:25
And of course, I can turn it on and off. Now, most likely, you're going to
1:30
install these like I am, which is going to be under a cabinet or on top of a cabinet or maybe
1:36
under a couch or a table or something, in which case, this isn't going to be particularly
1:41
accessible, so you're probably not going to be using it. Now, you can use this if you want
1:45
It obviously makes life a whole lot more simple, but it's really the smart app there, what do they
1:51
call it, the eColor Life app that makes it really fun. So let me go ahead and get that running
1:57
and I'll show you it's super easy to work with and I found that it was one of the easiest
2:02
apps I've ever used in terms of pairing with the device. I literally just had the device on
2:08
started the app and next thing I knew it had found the light and I was ready to go So first off right off front I can turn them on or off That easy But if I step into the app then there three primary modes Let wait and take a second or two
2:25
There we go. To get connected. So I can do brightness level by that slider along the top
2:31
We'll keep it up all the way. I can set up timers. If I wanted to come on at, say, 5 p.m
2:37
and turn off at 9 p.m. every night. That's easy to do. There's a variety of different settings where you can name
2:44
your lights and you can most importantly specify things like making sure you have the
2:49
right version of the firmware when I plug this in immediately there was a
2:53
firmware update and then the real fun there is music which ostensibly
2:58
synchronizes it to sound so as I talk it is trying to react to what it's
3:09
hearing obviously way more fun when you have loud music then there's colors
3:14
you can just pick different colors and find the one that's your favorite
3:19
If you scroll down a bit, there's also the ability to adjust between a warm and a cool temperature
3:26
Warm temperatures tend to work better at night, and cool temperatures tend to work better during the day
3:32
And then finally, there's a zillion different preset scenes, some of which include like Flash
3:37
which I have ascertained is a great way to build anxiety. But I don't know, maybe I haven't been to a discotheque long
3:44
enough. Candleight, I know, even the fact that I call it a discotheque, just makes me sound
3:50
like I'm not 19 years old, but you've already figured that out by watching this
3:55
Breathing gives you a sort of nice transition here. And there's the game mode. There's a lot
4:02
of fun modes. Honestly, I think most people are going to probably just pick a favorite color
4:06
like purple, and then they'll just have it on and off, which I can adjust with the little
4:11
tiny power button on the top right. So if I turn it it back on and that's everything
4:16
So it's actually a pretty functional app considering what a simple task is taking care of
4:23
So that's cool. So like I said, on wire controller, remote controller
4:29
included with the product, Bluetooth, so there's an app included. It has a timer so you can set it to go on and off at specific times each day So lots to like about it I will actually unroll it I going to show you in a second I going to install it
4:45
And then you'll see what it looks like in actual use. But not recommended to do it this way. I can already feel a little bit of heat coming off
4:53
In fact, let's go ahead and turn that off for a minute. And the app turned off simultaneously. So it's really all talking to each other
5:00
So what I don't like about it is number one. The separation between these two is really minimal
5:07
I wish there was a way to have longer wires. In particular, the usage case I had is to have it above the cabinets here in my kitchen
5:17
but there's about a, I don't know, seven foot span between my two major sets of cabinets
5:24
and there's no way this is going to work for that. So that's kind of a drag
5:29
I wish that it was Alexa or Siri or HomeKit. or Google Home or any smart home enabled
5:38
As far as I can tell, that's not a feature here. Now, having said that, when you hear the price, you'll be like
5:44
dude, what do you want for that price? These are super affordable. They're really like easy budget
5:50
Now, the biggest thing I don't like about it is that this is a really big plug
5:56
and that becomes somewhat problematic in your install. Now, you can do it like this
6:01
and that's what I'm going to do is I'm going to plug this into, to a hidden outlet in my kitchen
6:06
and then run this up behind my cabinet. But this is just really big
6:12
I know that that's sometime as just, you know, how the electronics work out
6:16
but I would encourage E-Color to work on some way to minimize that size
6:22
And finally, there is that heat generation. I don't think that's an issue when this is all rolled out
6:27
but even now a minute or two after I've turned it off, I can still feel a little bit of warmth here from the coil
6:34
So there's all that, but now let me switch it around and I'm going to go ahead and install these over my kitchen cabinets and then I'll show you what that looks like
6:45
Okay so I have it installed on the cabinets above me So let turn it on and you can see that pretty cool That the red and green and blue And obviously where you most seeing it is on the white ceiling as opposed to on my dark red walls
7:06
That is not the optimal color for this to have a good effect
7:10
But it's still pretty darn sweet and I can make it as bright as possible
7:14
Let's go back to red. That seems to work well. And I can also dim it
7:18
And I'm having to point it at the unit to get this remote to work
7:23
work, but of course if I was using the app on my phone, then it wouldn't be an issue
7:29
This, however, is really cool. So it is a very simple piece of technology
7:35
I haven't properly installed it. The entire strip actually has an adhesive on the back
7:41
So you can do a really good job with your install. I just have it laying on the top here, but I still think this effect is very, very cool
7:49
So really the only thing left to talk about at this point is the price
7:55
But before we get to the price, I'm going to ask if you could subscribe to my channel
7:59
click or a tap on that subscribe button. Really helpful. Cool. Well, this unit that I now have installed and can't show you in my hand is the E-color smart LED strip light
8:11
This is the two-time 16.4 feet. And it's 1899, marked down to 1799, with a 14-9
8:19
dollar coupon dropping it down to a ridiculously inexpensive 1399 at amazon.com you can pick up a bunch of
8:27
these and just add lights everywhere name them all use them all in the app it does have a couple of
8:34
shortcomings as i've talked about but overall super fun and honestly look at the difference between
8:39
when it's off and i just have cabinets ho-hum and when i turn it on and you can imagine if this was a
8:46
dark environment or darker environment just how effective you if that would be. Anyway, that's what I got. I need to do a proper install, so I'll have to catch you in my next video
