2:05
My name is Mahesh Chan, founder of C Sharp Corner and host of this Growth Mindset Show
2:10
It's every week, every Friday, 12 noon. Sometimes when I'm not available, we don't have the show
2:17
Let me make sure I turn my lights on. Looks like it's a little dark here
2:21
okay maybe this is better all right so what we're going to do today we are going to talk about some
2:28
of the updates in my last week uh and then we're also going to talk about new topic metaverse have
2:35
you heard of metaverse we are going to talk about metaverse and looks like so um this is something
2:42
new metaverse is something new everybody's talking about sure there were nfts in in crypto world but
2:48
today we will talk about methods and i just realized that my lights uh it's not charged
2:53
so let me see if i can hook them up it should take me a second um so let's see if it works
3:05
all right we will see if it works see how it goes all right so let's start with that so
3:11
So couple of housekeeping items. Let's start with, so I was traveling this week, Miami
3:19
I went to Miami last Saturday. I was there Saturday, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday
3:26
came back on Tuesday and I was there at a conference. I was at the Decipher conference
3:32
It's a conference from Algorand, which is one of the largest cryptocurrencies
3:38
one of the top ones. So that was good learning. lot of good learning so a lot of talks going on nfts games with the cryptocurrency in it and
3:47
also metaverse and that's when i thought you know when i go back i'm going to talk about metaverse
3:54
um um whether you know miami looks like it was awesome because people start meeting in person
4:00
uh things were good um it was very very energetic and uh you know motivating i also had another
4:07
conference yesterday we had a conference yesterday C Sharp Corner kind of partner a little bit
4:12
late even though it was late C Sharp Corner partner it was a metaverse focused conference
4:20
it was called mentality metaverse we will be actually doing more conference with them
4:26
in coming months actually they have two more two more conferences coming up on the same topic more
4:33
everything around metaverse so that's why it also made me to think about let's talk about metaverse
4:38
from c-sharp corner because on c-sharp corner we're always talking about upcoming and latest
4:44
technologies and emerging technology right so we don't want to skip on any of those
4:50
um so next thing is uh oh but we did a great mou signing c-sharp corner in stratus combined we did
4:57
did a MOU signing with the GL Bajaj College in Noida. That's one of the top colleges, I would say
5:05
So what does that MOU means? It's basically at GL Bajaj College in their last semester
5:14
they're going to have a subject on blockchain and they will learn blockchain using Stratus
5:20
So that's pretty awesome, right? So students will be learning Stratus in their last semester
5:27
And good thing is maybe some of them we will be able to help out get the job as well
5:32
If we are hiring somebody, we have partners hiring anybody that company is hiring
5:37
So at least these students will have some understanding of blockchain. And C Sharp Corner will also be doing some events at their campuses
5:48
And also they will also be invited to come to have some industry visits
5:55
How cool is that? imagine you're in college and and you know you're already working on some live products and projects
6:03
that's how cool is that i wish i had that when i was in college yeah so amazing this event was awesome
6:12
and then uh last thing is uh there's a stratus hackathon going on right now
6:18
um and stratus is actually giving away 100 000 us dollars and that's that's a lot of money
6:23
If you ask me if I was a student and somebody tells me there's a hackathon going on and you can win $20,000, $30,000, $20,000, $30,000, I would participate in that
6:37
Because even though I don't win the amount of money, but at least I will learn that this is a big motivator to learn something
6:46
So look at that here. It looks like it's already 119 participants, 100,000 prizes
6:53
And I believe the first prize is $30,000 US dollars. And there's $20,000, $50,000, $10,000, something like that
7:01
So it's pretty good. And obviously, C Sharp Corner is a partner with Stratus
7:06
And we always are here to help as well. So yeah, so brand prize, as you can see here, is $30,000
7:16
It means if you participate in this conference and your project is $30,000
7:24
That's a lot of money for a student. The second prize is $15,000
7:28
Third prize is $12,500. Fourth prize is $10,000. Fifth prize is $7,500
7:33
And there are three more prizes for $5,000 each. And it looks like there's a lot more. There's a bonus prize and there are a bunch of other prizes
7:40
To me, that's a lot of prizes. So imagine there are 100 participants, 119 participants and not everybody is going to participate
7:49
Then the chances of out of 100 and having 10 12 15 prize is pretty good It a 15 chance that that pretty good so think about that all right so that that was housekeeping and let uh uh let go back to our
8:06
topic of the today so first of all hope everybody's safe i mean i know there's new variant out there
8:11
it looks like pretty aggressive um everybody's panicking like whole you know everybody's pretty
8:16
panicking and you know travel stop and so on so forth but um maybe hope this is
8:23
stopping this travel can maybe contain the virus right that'll be that'll be cool
8:28
um simon is also looking behind the scene is working with the team figuring out if
8:33
we are going to do in-person event uh in new new dully or noida or burgham whatever we are looking
8:38
for the hotels as well so that will be interesting to learn hello now venkat good to see you uh
8:46
pleasure good to see you again at least good to see familiar faces and you guys are here thank
8:51
you for joining me again i feel like i have a company here uh so maybe you guys should come in
8:57
behind the studio sometime and then end of the show so and again as i said guys this this show
9:05
is for you it's not for me because i'm only saying things i already know i'm only talking about things
9:10
i already know so point here is that this is for you whoever is listening watching and if you have
9:16
any questions if you have any questions just ask because uh questions also get us moving and
9:23
motivating and then i you know more questions also bring more ideas and for me to even learn
9:28
more and think about things so feel free to ask questions so let's talk about this metaverse and
9:34
I will share my screen today actually. Let's see if I can find it
9:41
But as I said, as I said, I already spoke on this metaverse yesterday
9:49
So I have slides already ready to do. So if you joined me yesterday
9:55
then you may not find much here, but you can ask questions
10:00
But let me share my screen and that'll be cool. okay i can do the screen share i need two monitors so i guess i can upload slides yeah you can upload
10:37
this slide just click on share slides and then you'll find an option that says your computer
10:42
slides okay your computer awesome it will take up like 30 seconds to load i'm going to upload
10:48
file see if i can find it that's important part uh did you do one drive speaking did you do
10:59
let me find it um that's our state it is all right sorry about that we weren't prepared for this but now we won't be one more second
11:11
there you go let's see if i can upload there you go it's uploading file so while we're uploading
11:16
Rohit, welcome. I think this show is actually for everybody. This is not even technical
11:22
This is anybody who wants to learn about metaverse. So if you guys can also..
11:29
Yeah, this is exactly how... This is a very good point and we will cover this point also
11:35
the health consequences with these machines exposed. I agree. And there are major concerns
11:40
in you know in the metaverse um and if you remember i remember working with google glass
11:46
probably about six seven eight years ago six seven yeah definitely that long and it used to get hot
11:52
and it was bad for even head right so we will jump right in their metaverse and blockchain and in
11:58
healthcare consequences everything we will cover in this as well um so let's um so let's start with
12:05
metaverse right so i think i can drive my own slides yep awesome yeah so i'm gonna skip these
12:11
um so by the way oh look at the screen so this year so far in last 12 months c sharp corner has
12:18
has passed 29 million users and that's a big deal that's a big deal for us first time we have
12:24
reached this many users uh 29 million in a whole year and uh 70 of them are actually new users so
12:32
So it'll be interesting to see when we launch these new programs. So thank you all for everybody for coming to the site and attending and keep coming and sharing
12:42
So let's talk about Metaverse, right? So I have been working with Microsoft HoloLens for, I think in 2014, I started working in that
12:51
So Metaverse is not anything new. It's not something new because Facebook recently changed their company name from Facebook to Meta
12:59
doesn't make them a like a leader in metaverse okay they're actually behind if you ask me
13:04
microsoft has been there for a long time and that was their reason for a while ago is that
13:10
in in in a world of enterprises where people are communicating from different areas different cities
13:18
and like during this pandemic you can't even travel people can use these you know hololens
13:24
in other 3D or AR VR devices and then you know collaborate on things and also looks like they
13:35
are in real you know together more in some spaces for example you can be in a park you can be in a
13:43
meeting room you can be in a coffee shop all those things so let's talk about what is metaverse right
13:52
It's not new, as I said. So in metaverse, everything is virtual
13:56
Let's start with one thing. Everything is virtual, okay? It's a virtual world
14:02
It's a digital world. It means you're going to put these glasses on or devices on your headset
14:10
either AR, VR, XR, mixed reality, it doesn't matter. You put them on
14:16
In our top of the world, you are in a different world. It's a world can be made up
14:20
It could be a city. It could be a universe. It could be a room
14:25
It doesn't matter where you are. And then other people can join from different places
14:29
And now you are talking, you're sharing, you're doing things together. And the idea with metaverse really is that, you know, you're sitting here on your computer
14:39
but you can walk around and do something else. You know, you saw those boobies
14:44
In reality, it sounds pretty bad. If you ask me, it's pretty bad for our, you know, health and human and all that
14:51
because we'll be sitting more on computers. But there's useful applications as well too
14:59
Like look at right now in Pandemic World, right? In today's world, somebody's sitting in South Africa
15:05
somebody's sitting on India, somebody's sitting in Europe somewhere, somebody's in US
15:10
Now they all, people want to work on the same project or want to collaborate on whatever they're doing together
15:19
and want to just go in the same room. Now that makes a to me that's a good application right. Do I really want to put a headset on that for not really right now. But there are some applications when you use headset you can actually work on real project and do real things
15:37
So we will go that a little more but point is that metaverse is not new
15:44
When you are playing a video game, in games you can have your own avatars, right
15:48
And you can become somebody else You can be a mayor of a city you can be a general of the army you can be a player you can be a you know an agent of you know whatever you call and James Bond and some of
16:01
the movies right you can use any of those so that's the better worst world um so in technically
16:10
what it is it's basically a 3d world where you have to use some kind of devices to unload to you
16:16
you know, have access to that world. Obviously, it will have login and all that
16:20
You create your identity. You create your avatar. And in future, you'll also have your real image
16:26
which is like, you know, the way you look. That's coming soon. You had properties
16:31
You know, you can have, for example, you can join this world where you can go in a city
16:38
and you can become, you know, go in a post and you can become a mayor or president
16:42
or you can have, you know, there are some games where you can start collecting, building your army
16:47
and you can attack on some other world. So that's kind of the same idea
16:52
But that's not really, we are talking about this right now. My focus is what can we do with Metaverse
16:59
What are the real applications we as software developers can create, right
17:03
What can make us, you know, next businesses? So if you have, you know, you are building business software for businesses
17:10
how can you take advantage or benefit from these new technologies? And that's really what we're talking about here
17:17
So in the metaverse right now, there are two leading companies. Facebook is trying to build a, you know, they're saying that metaverse is the next big thing
17:27
That's what they're really focusing on a lot. Microsoft has already been doing its own metaverse kind of version with businesses
17:35
Microsoft is saying, you know, our holographic computing with our HoloLens and combining with other device
17:42
and they also launch a new platform called Microsoft Mesh. Microsoft Mesh is an Azure Cloud platform
17:49
where all the data objects can be collected through these devices and the processing will be done in cloud
17:58
And then so the communication is really smooth and fast and no lagging
18:03
and it can also use AI and machine learning in the back. So guys, as I keep saying a lot of these things
18:09
make sure if you have any questions feel free to post these questions here so make sure i cover that
18:16
um so look at microsoft teams now microsoft teams have already i'm using metaverse now means you can
18:22
go in a room you can use an avatar you can use 3d shapes and you can also use holograms um and you
18:29
like all if you have a hololens both parties have hololens you can have your hologram shapes
18:34
and then you can move and you will see me like in 3d how i'm moving on 2d right now on the screen
18:39
you can see in 3d i can move around and things like that so that's kind of what we are talking
18:44
about here um it's a big market i think research just came out i scored this from an online website
18:51
it says it's going to be 1.4 trillion market in coming time uh that's a big market um so
19:01
what is the importance of a blockchain in metaverse right blockchain and cryptocurrency play is going
19:07
to play a major role because in in virtual metaverse world the currency is going to be virtual
19:14
okay it's not going to be real cash it's not going to be credit cards either the all transaction
19:20
will happen it will be in terms of these cryptocurrencies okay and should uh and then
19:27
once you let's say you are in a metaverse you are in a city and you say you know what i'm going to
19:31
to buy this house you go and buy this house you have to pay for it um so how you pay you have to
19:37
pay in cryptocurrency right digital assets or and then security is going to be another concern as
19:42
well security and ownership of the how do you make sure that whatever you own digital because they are
19:48
not real you have no proof it's like cryptocurrency you have to make sure they're secure right um so
19:55
this is all about building digital economy right i don't know if you've heard of that nfts non
20:00
fungible tokens are growing like insane. I don't know where this world is going to but everybody's
20:05
building NFTs these days. Anybody I talk to everything is NFT. So I'm working with a couple
20:12
of projects on NFT already. So just you know that's what it is that's what it is. So what are
20:19
the other challenges ahead in Metaverse? I think I see a big challenge in the data because you know
20:25
right now when we are talking i'm you know speaking here and you are joining me and watching
20:31
me this is all 2d data right is going on a screen 2d data is very small compared to 3d data in
20:38
metaverse everything is 3d you know so there's an amount of data is going to create and transfer from
20:46
one place to other place the store is like for example if we are communicating this in 3d world
20:52
metaverse and we start recording this this half an hour size can be multiple multiple
20:59
multiple times of this duty size um so that's one big challenge number two challenge security
21:05
right in digital world if i own something how do i make sure that the ownership is
21:11
secure and nobody else can go hack into my system and claim that they own that right that's another
21:17
big challenge and then third or fourth things are basically you know we have seen the effect of
21:24
social media on children in mental and physical health so in virtual world it's easy for people
21:30
to say things they would never say in real life because in real life you are in front of person
21:36
you see things and then you you know it's hard for me to yell at somebody or curse at somebody or
21:44
do bad things to somebody in real life because it's their emotions that are there but in virtual
21:50
world in this metaverse it's easy for people to bully to yell to curse to do other things to kick
21:56
to shoot right so look at all the games i can go in a game and i can shoot around people okay will
22:02
i do that in my real life never so that's kind of things we need to worry about and then mental and
22:09
physical health so imagine if you know we are playing we are in metaverse a lot rather than
22:14
doing in-person events if we start doing all events or meetings work meetings in metaverse
22:20
in reality physically we are just sitting around on a chair or standing around so we are not really
22:26
meeting so that is a big effect on our mental and physical health so those are the going to be some
22:32
of the major challenges but as I was speaking another conference the other day a lot of people
22:40
are already thinking about the solving these problems how if you are in metaverse how you know
22:46
not only you can solve these mental physical problems in within metaverse but also in real life
22:51
so for example I had some I one lady Linda she came in talking about how she plans to use metaverse
22:59
she said she's going to because of the pandemic or physical distance she may have a studio in
23:06
metaverse that talks about you know mental health and how to improve your physical health and
23:12
everything else so in other words she will teach in the within the metaverse so people can do that
23:18
in real life because they can learn how to do things in 3d and pretend like they're doing real
23:25
but then they can apply that same thing they learned within metaverse in the outside of real life
23:30
so that's one example other example is let's say four engineers are working on a 3d model
23:38
or building a you know boat or an architecting in a house or something they can learn that doing that
23:44
in a 3d model but then after learning and all that then they can take that out and do that in real world so there are some applications in metaverse that are going to be very useful especially from the
23:55
business side and that is why personally i'm more interested in microsoft metaverse compared to
24:02
facebook metaverse or other metaverses right that's kind of i'm thinking yeah so let's take a
24:07
yeah we have a couple of questions so yeah so is are there any consequences for health in machines
24:14
So answer is we don't know yet. Right now, most of the devices are being used
24:20
The guys, they use kits using games. For example, Oculus Rift is a Facebook and Microsoft HoloLens is Microsoft
24:28
I use Microsoft HoloLens and after using for half an hour, it's not good
24:34
It feels like, you know, heavy and it's like that. And I'm sure it's going to have a lot of mental health effects on physical bodies
24:44
there is no question that but since there's not enough data it's hard to tell what kind of
24:49
right even though they're saying it won't have much because it has to be approved by the fd
24:54
fda fdc or whatever fda so we will see and so is we will see we don't know the effects but it's
25:01
definitely going to have some bad effects it's not going to be good uh even look at the phones
25:05
right phone even have effects uh forget about these device 3d devices right so for metaverse
25:13
do we must have any gear yes so metaverse is all about 3d it's not it's more it's like so you have
25:19
to have some kind of devices to view and experience it it's not a 2d it's not a screen only right
25:26
sure you can use ar ar is a part of metaverse you can use your phone uh that's part of metaverse but
25:32
in the real one will be you will need a some kind of yeah uh gear to view it yes um yes um can we
25:42
use this as a virtual meetings and yeah exactly so virtual meet microsoft teams has already launched
25:48
in metaverse so that's first application of microsoft metaverse is the teams and teams now
25:54
you can even use your 2d screens ar br and you can use avatars so all those combinations so that's
26:01
going to be i think first major business application which is already we are seeing it
26:06
it um now let's take another question that uh yeah so what skill sets are required to evolve this is
26:13
a so skill sets are all about really what technology and what company and what you know
26:19
you're targeting so if you're building applications metaverse applications for hololens microsoft
26:24
all you need is c sharp and hot net and maybe azure cloud yes so if you are a c sharp and
26:31
developers you can start building you know um uwp hololens applications right now uh i have built
26:39
every hololens applications already and they said this is similar technical skills you need for
26:45
metaverse uh and also then connecting to azure and all that so microsoft mesh is the technology so
26:52
simon if you said microsoft mesh there's sdk's and there's learning stuff already out there that's
26:58
what you want to learn search for is microsoft mesh m-e-s-h um and then simon has a question
27:06
any idea why all the nft marketplace is filled with pixel art um
27:14
what do you mean by pixel art i'm not sure i mean art so nft if you think of nft it's a
27:21
non-fungible token right means it's unique something unique that's digital that you can
27:27
sell in the you know and put more value right that's one one of the one of the first applications
27:34
of nfts so art is the seems to be the first thing comes in people's mind that arctic's unique a lot
27:41
of people wants to own and acquire art um because art can be valuable more in future so that's a
27:49
natural application of nfts but today nfts are being built for all kind of stuff for example um
27:56
you know if there's a biggest project one of the biggest project is uh nba's top shot so nba has
28:05
this uh application nft application top shot where you can look at nba players highlights you look at
28:12
their pictures you can look at their sign autograph cards um so this is all where you can buy these
28:19
and own them so what does that mean means if you like a player and you found a clip for the player
28:25
for two minutes and you can buy that and own it and nobody else can buy it but imagine in five years
28:31
somebody else you can then put it there and say i want to resell it if somebody wants to rebuy it
28:37
for more money then you can make money from it so that's the reason some of the people acquire nfts
28:42
that to like something it's similar to art right a lot of people buy art because first of all they
28:48
love the art and they want to hang in the room. This is like a digital world and then there you
28:55
have your NFTs. It's like owning these NFTs and that's pretty much the idea behind it, right
29:04
There's a lot more applications out there, right? So, I wrote an article on Shisha
29:08
Outporn, what are NFTs, and this that talks about it. Some of the NFTs were sold for millions of
29:12
So this designer, this art creator created a picture or somebody took a picture, they sold it for half a million dollars
29:22
So it's happening already. And one difference is that the NFTs all have to be buy and sold in cryptocurrency because they also need to be stored on a blockchain using one cryptocurrency
29:36
So right now, a majority of NFTs are being developed, created using Ethereum and also
29:42
stored in Ethereum blockchain. So to buy them in Ether. But Stratus is just, Stratus for example is launching their own NFT platform marketplace soon
29:53
So now in coming time, you can create your own NFTs, store them and mint them
29:59
They call it minting when you hold them and buy them. can then mint them on a stress platform so in pain stress so hopefully I think that covered all
30:11
the questions for me so yeah check out this article all about NFTs but you may find a use
30:16
case your own use case some of these cases are just I mean to me they're stupid if you ask me
30:22
but people are buying and selling that's what they're doing I would I won't do that personally
30:27
unless it's a real application, right? So I don't just fall for things like whatever
30:35
but this explains everything what NFTs are all about. And now I'm going to write an article on what is Metaverse
30:41
So we will cover all those details more in that. That article will come on C Sharp Corner as well
30:48
So with that said, I think if we don't have any questions
30:52
and it's 12.31, it's perfect time because we're trying to squeeze this show into half an hour so people can, you know
30:59
they don't get bored. It looks like we don't have any more questions. With that said, I would say thank you so much for joining me
31:06
And hopefully I will see you again next Friday. Same time. Thank you
