Hey guys, this video is going to be a little bit different
0:02
I wanted to share something that's really been on my mind today. Yesterday I was out doing some mountain biking with my 10 year old son out at one of the jump parks
0:12
We were having a good old time, just the two of us. It's kind of hot here in Utah
0:17
I decided to get some air and felt like the landing was good
0:22
It was about 3 feet of drop and then things were just flashes
0:27
Next thing I know I am glimpses of going through the air
0:31
I came down and totally crashed onto my shoulder and heard a bunch of popping
0:36
I felt like my neck popping as my head slammed down onto the dirt
0:41
Unfortunately I had a helmet on. It was really, really rough and everything was going white on me
0:50
I kind of drug myself over to one of the jump ramp areas and just leaned up against it
0:58
For 15-20 minutes everything was white and getting whiter. I could just barely make out the edges of the grass
1:07
I'm laying there, calling my wife, letting her know where we're at to come and help me
1:14
Things were getting worse and worse and everything was getting whiter and whiter
1:18
I'm just sitting there praying, please help me and make it through this
1:25
It was in that moment that as I'm sitting there I was legitimately concerned that this was it
1:32
My wife might show up and I might not be conscious. I felt extreme pain all through my shoulder and into my ribs
1:42
It was hurting to breathe. I lay there really thinking that I might not be making it out of here and what that meant
1:52
As much as I love software development and writing code, it's in a moment like that that I was thinking about my family and missing my family
2:03
I wasn't thinking about writing another line of code or the next project that I was working on
2:11
Sometimes it's these kind of events that help us refocus on what's most important in our lives
2:19
I remember when I was learning to code and all the time that it took spending studying in the evenings
2:25
Often at the expense of that time to my family. I'd like to encourage you that as you're working on this journey
2:35
whether it's learning to code or if you're already there and you're just working hard on your career
2:40
and trying to develop your skills, that at the end of the day, it's important to remember those that you care about and be sure to give them time
2:49
You just never know when something crazy is going to happen like this
2:53
Focus on your loved ones, whether that's your husband, your wife, your significant other, your brothers, sisters
3:00
whoever that might be that you just care about. Make sure to find time to squeeze them in
3:07
There's some things that are just even more important than learning to code and finding time for those priorities
3:15
Anyways, I have another video I'd also recorded that might see if my wife can help do some editing
3:23
I'm not sure when that will go out and I'm not sure what's going to happen over the next week or two
3:27
because I'm pretty cut up and hashed up and everything. I got in for x-rays and stuff and had a pretty bad concussion and stuff
3:37
I'm not supposed to spend a lot of time looking at a computer or doing things like that
3:42
and just all the flashing and the focus and everything. I just got to take it easy
3:46
If I don't end up responding to your comments because I love responding to your guys' comments and engaging with you
3:52
I'm not trying to ignore you guys. I just have to take a break for a little bit and get myself back together and stuff
3:59
so that I hopefully get through this concussion as soon as possible and everything. I totally appreciate you guys and your understanding and I hope you have a great day
4:07
I look forward to answering your questions and stuff when I get back feeling together again
