Welcome to day two of our Cushion Cover Crochet Along. Today we're going to be squaring off our
0:06
cushions ready to finish off these two panels so that tomorrow we can join them and get our crochet
0:11
cushion finished. So with our stitch markers we're going to place and map out where our corners are
0:17
going to be which will make the next part that little bit easier for us. So you can place your
0:22
first marker in any of the cluster spaces, randomly grab that one there, and then we need to leave
0:29
the next six unmarked. So one, two, three, four, five and six. I'm going to place my marker there
0:39
and do the same again. So one, two, three, four, five and six. Place another marker
0:49
One, two, three, four, five and six. So after this marker's placed, we should have
0:56
1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6. So that works out. As you can see, they're quite evenly spaced
1:06
So for round seven, we're going to square off this circle. We're going to start in this first space here. I need my cream. There we are
1:18
Very bravely take that out and replace the stitch marker with my yarn and attach
1:23
so where we pop these stitch markers in these are going to be our corners
1:27
so it just makes it a little bit easier to make sure we've done the right stitch count
1:33
I promise so for round seven we're going to start by doing a chain four
1:43
so as always just yarn over to bring your loop up and then count four chains
1:49
If you didn't know, a chain four is equivalent to a treble crochet, which is a double treble
1:57
in UK terms. So for this, we wrap the yarn around the hook twice before we insert it into this space
2:06
So bringing the yarn towards you, wrap your hook twice, insert the hook into the cluster
2:13
space that you've joined and done your chain four, yarn over, bring a loop up, yarn over
2:20
pull through two, yarn over, pull through two, yarn over, pull through two. Now because this is a corner
2:28
we need to chain two and then we're going to work a further two treble crochets into that same
2:37
cluster space. So wrap your yarn twice, reinsert your hook into the same stitch or cluster space
2:44
again, yarn over, pull through two, yarn over, pull through two and pull through two. And again
2:53
we're going to wrap our yarn twice back into that same cluster space, pull through two
3:00
pull through two and pull through two and that creates our first corner
3:06
Rather than carrying on with this wonderfully tall stitch we're going to work into the top of
3:16
each of the stitches across. Now what you may not realise is, if you pull that down slightly
3:22
this, that tiny hole there, is the top of this stitch and we need to make sure we never miss it
3:29
because otherwise our stitch counts will all be wrong and we won't be creating a square
3:34
So into the top of this first stitch, which is just hiding underneath those stitches
3:41
we're going to place a treble crochet. So we wrap our yarn twice, insert our hook at the top of that
3:49
stitch. I'm going to put my tail over, yarn over, bring that loop back through just as before. You
3:57
pull through two, pull through two and pull through two. The next three stitches that we work
4:06
we're going to work a normal double crochet. So we yarn over once, insert and complete our double
4:13
crochet three times. So that's one, working to the next stitch, two, yarn over, working to the next
4:22
stitch, that will be number three. We're then going to reduce the stitch height again and work
4:29
half double crochets into the next three stitches. So that's one, two, just to confuse myself
4:43
I've got to work over underneath my slip stitches here. So if like me, if you slip stitch across
4:49
you'll see you've got your slip stitches towards you. Just underneath them you'll
4:54
find your stitch. That was number three for the half double crochets. Then we're
5:01
going to reduce the stitch again and work single crochets into the next four So that one two there number
5:16
three, so the top of this stitch, three and four. To balance out, see it probably doesn't look very
5:28
flat right now. But to balance out the rest of this to get us back to this point, we're going to
5:33
reverse what we've just done. So we're going to increase our stitch height this time. So we're
5:38
going to go up to a half double crochet into the next three stitches. So we've got one
5:44
two and three. Let's increase that stitch height again so do a double crochet one
6:03
two and three. Oh thank goodness we've got one stitch left which is just what we needed
6:11
So in our last stitch we're going to increase our height again before we work our next corner
6:17
So we yarn over the hook twice and work a treble crochet into the top of that last stitch
6:27
We're going to remove this stitch marker and then we can work our corner which is
6:34
two double, sorry two treble crochets, oops dropped it, let's try that again, wrap twice
6:41
So that's one treble. I'm going to work another into the same corner space
6:51
Chain two. Wrap twice. Going to work back into that same corner space, placing the other
7:01
two treble crochets. Oh, I dropped it again. I'm blaming looking at the camera
7:09
There we go. And there we are, we've completed our first edge. I promise you by the time
7:26
you come all the way back round, it will look perfect. So just as we did at the beginning
7:32
of this round, we're going to work into the top of this stitch. See how it disappears
7:37
underneath those stitches, it's so naughty. We're going to start by wrapping our yarn around our hook
7:42
twice, working into the top of this stitch, make sure you can find it, placing a double crochet
7:50
a treble crochet, and then we're going to work three doubles across the next three stitches
7:57
Then we're going to work half double crochets across the next three
8:17
And then for the next four stitches, we're going to do a single crochet
8:31
So that's the first part of the flat bit done. So then we reverse it all again
8:36
with three half double crochets, followed by three double crochets across those next three stitches
8:53
And we've finished this section with our treble crochet into that final stitch
9:00
before working into our next corner. And once again, just like a little reassurance thing
9:09
knowing that my stitch marker is in the right place or I've reached the right point
9:13
So into our corner, we're going to work those two double trebles
9:21
sorry treble crochets in US terms, chain two and then a further
9:36
two trebles and then we've come out of the way, there's that pesky little stitch
9:45
stitch. We're going to place a treble in that first stitch. Just move them out of those
9:52
stitches out of the way and remember it's at the top of this bit that way. Then we just
9:57
do the same thing again So three double crochets three half double crochets Oops I self talking about different stitches than the one I was doing Yeah three half double crochets four double crochets and then repeat it back to the other end
10:31
There we go. Remembering we should end this with a treble crochet
10:38
before we go into the next corner space
10:53
Three doubles. In that final stitch before our magical marker, we work our treble crochet
11:10
We're on the home straight here on this round and after that it's plain sailing
11:17
So into the corner we're going to work two trebles. Every time, every time
11:34
Chain two, a further two treble crochets
11:45
And then we're back to the start of the final bit. So, pull them out of the way
11:53
There it is. It's hiding. We're going to do a treble crochet into that first stitch
12:03
One, two, three double crochets. One
12:15
two, and three half doubles, one, two, three, and four single crochets. Working our way
12:31
back up with the half doubles for the next three stitches. the stitch size again, two, three double crochets and then one final treble crochet into that last stitch
12:54
before we slip stitch to the top of that chain four. I'm going to slip stitch across that first one and into the corner space
13:12
I'm going to fasten that off. This will not be lying perfectly flat, but once it's all blocked
13:23
It is perfect. There we go. Actually, it's pretty flat. That's good
13:27
So now we have a square around our circle. That was easy, wasn't it
13:31
I'm going to turn and work into a different corner because I'll work over that one in a minute
13:35
Because we're going to reattach into any corner space. Pink this time for me
13:43
So do your normal way if you want to tie it on or join it on whatever works best for you
13:51
So this is where it gets nice and simple. So this is round eight. Well, time flies when you're having fun
14:00
Just like we have with all the others, we're going to chain three, which counts as a double crochet
14:06
We're going to place after our chain three another double crochet into the same corner space
14:16
chain two and then work a further two double crochets into that same corner space
14:28
So now we need to make sure we can find the top of that stitch because into each stitch across here
14:34
we're going to work a double crochet. So making sure that you're working into that one
14:39
the one that gets a little bit hidden underneath. We're going to work a double crochet into each
14:47
of these stitches across this row. This time we are working into the stitches themselves rather than into any cluster spaces
15:10
or anything like that. Work all the way around to the next corner space And then we reached our corner space and into the corner we work two double crochets a chain two and two double crochets
15:36
So you can see along there how much flatter that's becoming
15:48
And it will really help to square it off. So we're going to repeat that the whole way around
15:55
Let's do a quick stitch count check. I'm not going to count the chains here, I'm going to count from here
16:11
So you should have 26 from corner to corner, sorry 26 double crochets. So
16:20
this we've already done our first two on this section and just making sure we go
16:23
into that first stitch there we're going to do the same again and in the corner
16:28
we work two double crochets, chain two, two double crochets. So repeat that the whole way around
16:34
working a double crochet into each stitch, two double crochets, chain two, two double crochets
16:40
into each corner and I'll meet you back at the end of round, whichever round we're on, seven
16:47
One, two, three, four, five, six, seven. Oh we're going, this is round eight, I'll meet you at the
16:51
end of round eight. You can either hit pause and get cracking or I'll just keep going
16:58
So at the end of round eight, we're going to slip stitch to the top of that chain three to join the round
17:10
And I'm going to slip stitch across into the corner space, which is ready to join as well
17:21
So we are going to repeat this last round that we've just done
17:25
so we are that's i have to count them again sorry one two three four five six seven eight
17:32
so we've done rounds one to eight so rounds nine ten eleven and twelve so four more rounds
17:39
just as we did for the last round so we are going to change our color if we are changing colors
17:45
and reattach in the corner Now we're going to work two double crochets, chain two, two double crochets
18:01
I say that we're going to start with a chain three. Oops. One, two, and three. And work a further double crochet into that space. Chain two
18:21
And then work those other two double crochets into that corner space
18:28
then working into each stitch across, making sure we grab that one there
18:33
we are going to work one double crochet into each stitch across to the next corner
18:40
and then continue to work our corners and every stitch across. So we're going to repeat this
18:46
round for a total of four more rounds, so a total of 12 rows altogether. So one, two, three, four
18:54
five six seven eight nine ten eleven twelve so four more times including this one so i'm going
19:01
to join you at the end of round 12 where we will have all of our rounds done and then get ourselves
19:12
ready to join these squares to create our cushion cover So I will catch up with you at the end of round 12
19:30
So I'm at the end of round 12, I have fastened off and we have our square ready. So we're going
19:40
to need two of these to make our cushion cover. So you may want to repeat the video and start all
19:45
the way back from round one and match your colours if you can because we're going to join these two
19:50
together to finish off our cushion cover. I'm going to do a separate video to show the join
19:57
and also at the same time I will show you the edging. Now if you have blocking pins and a
20:03
blocking mat or a very good yoga mat which is what I tend to do when things are a little bit too big
20:07
I would recommend just lightly dampening these. I've used acrylic yarn so it will hold quite well
20:14
You don't have to block them because when we join them together they'll be very square
20:18
but if you will feel better about yourself by doing it by all means block and I will see you
20:23
in the next video for us to join our granny squares and finish off our cushion cover
