VISIT NICARAGUA: https://www.instagram.com/visitanicaragua CARLOS: https://www.instagram.com/carlostapiapineda MY TRAVEL/FOOD BLOG: https://davidsbeenhere.com/ After arriving back in Masatepe on my way to the national capital, Managua, I set out to explore a local market and eat a local favorite. Come with me as I try some rustic Nicaraguan food and go on a market tour in Masatepe, Nicaragua! My fried and guide Carlos from Visit Nicaragua and I could only do this adventure on a Sunday, as it’s the only day they make sopa de gallina, or rooster soup! DAVID’S BEEN HERE MERCH: https://teespring.com/stores/davids-been-here We’d be eating at El Lomo y La Costilla, a restaurant that’s right across the street from El Rancho del Mondongo, which I ate at a few days earlier. They also grill chicken, pork ribs, and more! Inside, they sell sausages, maduros, nacatamales, Gallo pinto, and more! The restaurant was rustic and spacious. I got to see them make the soup, which contains chiyote, corn, cassaba, chipotle, and dumplings. I watched her knead the corn dough and add an egg, achiote, and salt. Then, she added mint, spring onions, garlic, and shredded chicken! Then, she forms the dough into balls and drops them right into the soup. Then, it cooks for five more minutes, and then it’s ready. Then, I went up to the front and got some ribs, the tongue, and plantains. The lady even fed me some. It was so tasty and the tongue was super tender! I loved it! Meanwhile, our soup was ready. It looked incredible! The broth was rich and flavorful. There were also lots of vegetables. The dumplings made it resemble matzo ball soup! It was a unique corn and chicken dumpling, and the soup was massive! I loved eating it with tortillas on the side!
