The largest WW1 shipwreck of the British Isles was built on the same slipway as the Titanic and was nearly as large. It was so big that sinking it required two German submarines. A massive 225 metres (740 feet) long and 32,120 GRT, the SS Justicia was the second largest ship sunk in World War One. It was operated as a troop ship by the White Star Line until torpedoed on 20 July 1918. The wreck now lies in nearly 70 metres off NW Ireland and is considered one of the Malin Head "Classics". I have dived it on multiple previous occasions but This was our check out dive at the beginning of a deep exped in 2022 so the video also includes a test of the deep bailout procedure. It didn't go totally to plan so you'll hear/see me describe what happened at the end of the video. *Highlights* 00:00 Introduction 05:32 So big it took two submarines! 11:06 Famous photo! 15:06 Twelve massive scotch boilers 19:08 Train hard: fight easy! 26:12 The spare gas arrives .... but then it goes wrong 32:16 Decompression profile for a 70m dive *CCR Training with Nick Viney* Nick Viney is my buddy in this video. This dive is on SS Skaala, a deep shipwreck lying 48 meters (160 feet) beneath the surface of the English Channel. I'll take you on an exploration of this mysterious wreck, laden with surprisingly beautiful artefacts I'll be diving with my closed circuit rebreather (CCR) to navigate the treacherous depths, where the pressure is extreme and the risk of decompression diving is ever-present. But the reward is well worth it - the SS Skaala is a treasure trove of shipwreck artefacts, including a rare patent fuel block and coal remnants from World War One. As an added bonus this dive features the situation when a diver fails to return to the Lazy Shot along with two new pieces of equipment; the Divevolk SeaTouch Max+ and Orcatorch D710 torch *Orcatorch D710 Underwater Torch* You can buy the Orcatorch D710 that features in this video using the link below. Diving the German UB85 submarine (or not!)

Internet folklore states that the UB-85 submarine was sunk by a 'sea monster' on 30 April 1918. It was believed to lie in 100 metres of water approximately 10 NM to the North East of Bangor, Northern Ireland. This area is highly tidal with strong currents, busy shipping and is notorious for poor visibility. On 16 July 2021 we dived the wreck where UB-85 was believed to be in order to confirm it's identity and check for bite marks ........ #ccr #closedcircuitrebreather #mixedgas #trimix #scubadiving #technicaldiving *Kit I Use* Note, some of these are affiliate links so help support making my videos: - Gloves are Ansell Alphatec 87-063 - https://amzn.to/4jDHhX4 - Main torch is an Orcatorch D630 - https://amzn.to/4jlT4tA - Backup torch is an Orcatorch D710 - https://amzn.to/4jhddRk - Drysuit is an O-Three Ri200 - https://www.othree.co.uk/drysuit-range/ri-2-100-drysuit/ - CCR is an AP Diving Inspiration (XPD) - https://www.apdiving.com/ - Backup computer is a Shearwater Perdix v2 - https://amzn.to/42FXZOW - Reels are by Kent Tooling - https://www.divingproducts.co.uk/ - Cameras are Paralenz Vaquita - Video light is NiteScuba NSV60 - NiteScuba NSV60 - https://s.click.aliexpress.com/e/_onHEKQZ - Phone housing is Divevolk Seatouch 4 Max - https://s.click.aliexpress.com/e/_omJlNKL - Strobes are Prozhaozhu 3000 Lumen Diving Strobe - https://s.click.aliexpress.com/e/_oBMRF3X *Like this video?* If you enjoyed this deep wreck diving video then check out my other ones πhttps://www.youtube.com/@D33pUK π You also may wish to consider buying me a coffee π https://buymeacoffee.com/d33puk βββ

Exploring History: First Dive to Victoria Cross Wreck

Frederick Parslow is one of only two merchant marine captains to win the Victoria Cross. His unbelievable bravery saved the SS Anglo-Californian from being sunk by the famous SM U-39, and it's legendary skipper Walther Forstman, on July 1915. Unfortunately this was at the cost of his life and that of 20 of his crew. Frederick is now buried in the cemetry in Cobb (old Queenstown). The Anglo-Californian was later bought by the Cunard company who changed the name to SS Vandalia before it was sunk off Pembroke in June 1918 in 107 metres of water. Fortunately there were no casualties this time. The wreck had almost certainly never been dived before we visited it in 2022. *Highlights* 00:00 Frederick Parslow Victoria Cross 03:35 An early start to hit slack! 06:10 He deserved the IRON CROSS! 10:38 What no wreck! 23:42 Finding the distance line - PHEW 29:20 The water is alive with aliens 30:35 Idiosyncracies of the boat 32:24 A great team *Thanks* Thanks to Rick Ayrton, Fran Hockley and Andrew Last for permission to use their photos and video *Kit I Use* Note, some of these are affiliate links so help support making my videos: - Gloves are Ansell Alphatec 87-063 - https://amzn.to/4jDHhX4 - Main torch is an Orcatorch D630 - https://amzn.to/4jlT4tA - Backup torch is an Orcatorch D710 - https://amzn.to/4jhddRk - Drysuit is an O-Three Ri200 - https://www.othree.co.uk/drysuit-range/ri-2-100-drysuit/ - CCR is an AP Diving Inspiration (XPD) - https://www.apdiving.com/ - Backup computer is a Shearwater Perdix v2 - https://amzn.to/42FXZOW - Reels are by Kent Tooling - https://www.divingproducts.co.uk/ - Cameras are Paralenz Vaquita - Video light is NiteScuba NSV60 - NiteScuba NSV60 - https://s.click.aliexpress.com/e/_onHEKQZ - Phone housing is Divevolk Seatouch 4 Max - https://s.click.aliexpress.com/e/_omJlNKL - Strobes are Prozhaozhu 3000 Lumen Diving Strobe - https://s.click.aliexpress.com/e/_oBMRF3X *Like this video?* If you enjoyed this deep wreck diving video then check out my other ones πhttps://www.youtube.com/@D33pUK π You also may wish to consider buying me a coffee π https://buymeacoffee.com/d33puk βββ

There are hundreds, possibly thousands, of unidentified shipwrecks on the seabed around the British Isles. Many of them are from the two World Wars and are a result of German submarine activity. Nearly 75 metres underwater, this wreck had been dived previously but resisted attempts at identification. On this technical dive, I located the maker's plate proving that it was the SS Lucent, built in Sunderland in 1879, and then sunk by the German submarine UC-66 in 1917. Exploring The Lusitania's Dark Underwater Tomb

The RMS Lusitania is one of the world's most famous shipwrecks. Torpedoed in 1915 by U-20 within sight of the Irish coast, nearly 1200 people lost their lives, and it has been the source of controversy ever since with both sides using it for propaganda purposes. Located in an area of poor visibility and strong tides, the 90 metre (295 feet) deep RMS Lusitania is notorious for being a very challenging dive. On this dive we penetrate deep inside the boiler room hoping to find evidence of a potential boiler explosion that may explain why it sunk so quickly. The USS Jacob Jones (DD-61) was torpedoed by the German submarine U-53 on 6 December 1917 with the loss of 66 lives becoming the first ever American destroyer to be sunk by enemy action. Famously the u-boat skipper, KapitΓ€nleutnant Hans Rose, surfaced and radioed for help which significantly reduced the loss of life Many people have tried to find the wreck but I was fortunate enough to be part of the team in 2022, diving from Darkstar, that found it 40 miles SW of the Isles of Scilly. In 115 metres (380 feet) of water and challenging tidal conditions, we located the ship's bell and were able to make a positive identification. Mystery German submarine identified by deep wreck divers

Even a hundred years after they sank, many German u-boats remain unidentified and the cause of their loss unclear. Often the only way to solve the mystery is to dive them, acquire as much information as possible and then combine it with what is known from archives I was part of a team of technical divers who completed a series of dives on a large World War One German submarine lying off the Lizard Peninsula in the English Channel. We scrubbed the prop and acquired large amounts of video which was used to build a 3D photogrammetry model. This allowed us to confirm the identity of the submarine as the SM U-95, lost on 7 Jan 1918. We were also able to validate SS Braenil's claim to have sunk SM U-95 by ramming, making it only the second merchant ship in WW1 to have achieved this feat. *More submarine dives:* Mystery german submarine 280 feet down - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0UnV-SxWHiQ 280 feet down - unidentified german submarine - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-lSZ3bHkrfs German u-boat lost in 1945 - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TSRbE4KHnPQ *Highlights* 00:00 Introduction 02:26 Mystery #1 - identification? 04:13 Mystery #2 - why did it sink? 05:19 Arrival at the wreck 09:55 Scrubbing the prop! 22:25 Recording numbers from the prop 25:05 Stern gun (88mm) and ready use ammunition 27:38 Conning tower and interior 30:58 Filling the lifting bag 34:20 Solving mystery #1 - identfication? 36:05 Solving mystery #2 - what sunk it? *Kit I Use* Note, some of these are affiliate links so help support making my videos: - Gloves are Ansell Alphatec 87-063 - https://amzn.to/4jDHhX4 - Main torch is an Orcatorch D630 - https://amzn.to/4jlT4tA - Backup torch is an Orcatorch D710 - https://amzn.to/4jhddRk - Drysuit is an O-Three Ri200 - https://www.othree.co.uk/drysuit-range/ri-2-100-drysuit/ - CCR is an AP Diving Inspiration (XPD) - https://www.apdiving.com/ - Backup computer is a Shearwater Perdix v2 - https://amzn.to/42FXZOW - Reels are by Kent Tooling - https://www.divingproducts.co.uk/ - Cameras are Paralenz Vaquita - Video light is NiteScuba NSV60 - NiteScuba NSV60 - https://s.click.aliexpress.com/e/_onHEKQZ - Phone housing is Divevolk Seatouch 4 Max - https://s.click.aliexpress.com/e/_omJlNKL - Strobes are Prozhaozhu 3000 Lumen Diving Strobe - https://s.click.aliexpress.com/e/_oBMRF3X *Like this video?* If you enjoyed this deep wreck diving video then check out my other ones πhttps://www.youtube.com/@D33pUK π You also may wish to consider buying me a coffee π https://buymeacoffee.com/d33puk βββ

Following a terrible accident, the Royal Navy destroyer, HMS Negro, vanished in December 1916 with the loss of 51 sailors. Years of research produced a possible site for the wreck. Overcoming the challenges posed by the remote location and 100 metre (300 feet) depth, the team were able to positively identify the wreck and confirm the final resting place of 51 men. *Useful LInks* Lost in waters deep website - https://lostinwatersdeep.co.uk/hms-negro.html Rick Ayrton on facebook - https://www.facebook.com/rick.ayrton.1/ MV Clasina - https://www.clasina.co.uk/ *Highlights* 00:00 HMS Negro introduction 01:54 Stunning images of the wreck! 02:33 Deck plans of HMS Negro 03:22 Tying in at the bottom of the shot 05:31 Jarrow boilers 06:38 The ship's bridge 07:00 Boom - the bell! 10:40 Bell on top of the wreck 13:05 Looking for the gun 15:45 Starboard side and divers 16:21 Looking for the stern 18:00 Emergency steering station 20:30 Brass everywhere & HMS Negro footplate 23:15 Returning to the shot 25:00 Decompression station 25:40 Getting on MV Clasina *Kit I Use* Note, some of these are affiliate links so help support making my videos: - Gloves are Ansell Alphatec 87-063 - https://amzn.to/4jDHhX4 - Main torch is an Orcatorch D630 - https://amzn.to/4jlT4tA - Backup torch is an Orcatorch D710 - https://amzn.to/4jhddRk - Drysuit is an O-Three Ri200 - https://www.othree.co.uk/drysuit-range/ri-2-100-drysuit/ - CCR is an AP Diving Inspiration (XPD) - https://www.apdiving.com/ - Backup computer is a Shearwater Perdix v2 - https://amzn.to/42FXZOW - Reels are by Kent Tooling - https://www.divingproducts.co.uk/ - Cameras are Paralenz Vaquita - Video light is NiteScuba NSV60 - NiteScuba NSV60 - https://s.click.aliexpress.com/e/_onHEKQZ - Phone housing is Divevolk Seatouch 4 Max - https://s.click.aliexpress.com/e/_omJlNKL - Strobes are Prozhaozhu 3000 Lumen Diving Strobe - https://s.click.aliexpress.com/e/_oBMRF3X *Like this video?* If you enjoyed this deep wreck diving video then check out my other ones πhttps://www.youtube.com/@D33pUK π You also may wish to consider buying me a coffee π https://buymeacoffee.com/d33puk βββ
