Working with a young Cocker spaniel in heavy bracken

I take Betty out to the fell where there is a lot of heavy bracken. Cover like this is a spaniel's bread and butter and your dog needs to be familiar with and able to deal with it. For a spaniel to do his job properly he should 'throw' the cover over his back, getting into and underneath it, as this is where game will be found. You should avoid letting your spaniel 'stag' or bound around on top of cover - he needs to get into it.
