Combining the recall whistle with sit and stay ( or hup and stay ) with a young spaniel

If your spaniel is reliable to the recall whistle then this should be pretty easy to do. Often if we have competition dogs or working dogs in the field, we can be asked to stop our spaniel at a distance and get him to stay there, frequently while the judge gives us some instructions, or, on a shoot while a drive is paused. Nimrod is getting better at his hupping and staying and calling him in from this is a doddle.
