hey everyone Ian Smith here with
0:02
fedsmith.com I'm bringing you a quick
0:05
update from some news from the
0:08
Department of Health and Human Services
0:10
that hit this week on Thursday March
0:14
27th the agency announced that it's
0:16
going to be laying off quite a few
0:19
federal employees from the agency as
0:21
part of a broader restructuring plan
0:23
that's going on at the agency and this
0:26
plan is part of the Trump
0:28
administration's overall efforts to
0:32
government in this case the agency's
0:35
laying off about 10,000 full-time
0:39
employees and um it's actually part of a
0:45
broader group of layoffs if you will um
0:49
because when combined with the fork in
0:52
the road offer as well as uh early
0:55
retirement HHS estimates that its
0:58
Workforce will go from about 82,000 down
1:02
to 62,000 full-time federal employees
1:05
that's a reduction of about 24% so it's
1:08
pretty significant however HHS pointed
1:11
out also that its budget grew by 38% and
1:16
its Staffing increased
1:19
177% over the last four years under the
1:22
Biden administration at the Food and
1:26
FDA um its Workforce is going to
1:28
decrease by approximately 3500 full-time
1:32
employees at the centers for dis Disease
1:35
Control and prevention its Workforce
1:38
would be cut by about 2400 employees at
1:42
the National Institutes of Health its
1:44
Workforce would be cut by about 1,200
1:48
employees in the centers for Medicare
1:51
and Medicaid services its Workforce
1:54
would be cut by about 300 employees HHS
1:58
also said as part of this
2:00
that no additional cuts are currently
2:05
department quote will continue to look
2:08
for other ways to streamline its
2:11
operations and agencies these layoffs
2:13
that HHS announced are part of a broader
2:15
restructuring plan that the agency's
2:17
currently working on its stated
2:21
objective is to save taxpayers money
2:25
reduce the size of the agency while also
2:27
making it operate more efficiently and
2:29
effect effectively and work better for
2:31
Americans HHS currently comprises 28
2:36
divisions and according to the
2:39
announcement from the agency many of
2:42
redundant and the plan is to consolidate
2:45
these 28 divisions into 15 new ones and
2:49
also cut Regional Offices in half
2:52
they'll be shrunk from 10 down to five
2:54
and the stated goal of this
2:56
restructuring plan is to improve
2:57
Americans experience with a HHS by
3:01
making the agency more responsive and
3:03
efficient while also ensuring that
3:06
essential services like Medicare
3:09
Medicaid and other health services
3:11
remain intact that was something it
3:13
stressed very heavily is that it's not
3:15
cutting Medicare Medicaid
3:17
services the agency estimates that once
3:21
the restructuring plan's all said and
3:23
done that it will save taxpayers about
3:25
$1.8 billion per year and this plan that
3:28
HHS is working on part of the Trump
3:31
administration's broader efforts to
3:33
reduce the size of the federal
3:35
government and eliminate waste and blo
3:38
the President issued an executive order
3:41
February uh the title of which was
3:44
implementing the president's Department
3:46
of government efficiency Workforce
3:48
optimization initiative and as part of
3:51
this initiative by the Trump
3:52
Administration the office of personnel
3:54
management announced shortly after this
3:57
executive order was issued that it was
4:00
directing agencies to prepare for large
4:04
scale riffs or reduction in force and
4:06
that's what we're seeing with HHS we're
4:09
seeing it at other agencies and it's all
4:11
part of this um larger scale or or
4:15
broader initiative by the Trump
4:16
Administration to reduce the overall
4:18
size of the government the
4:20
reorganization plan going on at HHS has
4:23
more details to it about some of the
4:25
other specific changes that are
4:27
happening I won't get into them in this
4:29
video but if you'd like more information
4:31
I've included a link in the description
4:33

4:35
into more detail I hope you found this
4:37
summary about the announcements from HHS
4:40
this week to be helpful there are a lot
4:42
of changes taking place not just to that
4:45
agency but in many agencies right now
