Also follow developing news right now. The countdown is on to the morning rush hour and
0:04
commuters in New Jersey are keeping their fingers crossed. The New Jersey transit strike is now in
0:09
its third day. But while there are signs of hope, what does it mean exactly for that? We go to Fox
0:14
Live's Meredith Gorman. She joins us live from New York Penn Station with the latest on these negotiations. How's it going, Meredith
0:22
Arthur, you know, right now it's pretty much status quo. There's still been no agreement
0:26
reached between both sides, the union and, of course, NJ Transit. But as for the latest in the negotiations
0:32
the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen said to Fox 5 in a statement
0:36
quote, hoping to reach agreement today, time will tell. Now, both sides met with mediators again after meeting for more than three hours yesterday
0:45
The engineers say they haven't had a raise in six years, and they want to be paid as much as the train engineers at other places
0:51
like Amtrak, Metro North, and the Long Island Railroad do. For commuters though even with NJ Transit contingency plan in place this has been a headache with some people telling me they still unclear about how to get around without these trains in service And for taxi drivers one told me this demand is unlike anything
1:10
he's ever seen. We're busy. Some people spend $200 to go to New York because no buses, no train
1:19
I tell you, I work from yesterday. I work in the taxi like 45 years. We never see something like
1:25
It's not super clear what's the easiest way to get to the city, nor what the time bus leaves or what's the duration of the trip
1:37
So we're just trying to figure out to get there. We have like three, four hours to visit, and then we have to get back
1:47
Again, we are still waiting to see if both sides can come to an agreement today before the Monday morning commute
1:53
But that being said, if they can't, NJ Transit says they'll launch a limited park and ride bus service beginning tomorrow morning
1:59
But that will only be able to accommodate one in five of the usual train commuters
2:06
Arthur. All right. Thank you very much, Meredith
