Behind the Scenes of SMASH The cast of SMASH is back and ready to dish out everything about their roles in the hit show that made us all dream of Broadway stardom. From drama to dancing, and, of course, diva moments, the actors behind the characters have some fun stories to share. So, let's get to it! First up, we have Karen Cartwright, played by the talented Katharine McPhee. Karen is the wide-eyed, fresh-faced girl from Iowa who dreams of making it big on Broadway. McPhee admits that playing Karen was a wild ride. "I was just like Karen," she laughs. "I came from a small town, and suddenly, I’m surrounded by Broadway pros! It was like being in a musical while still trying to figure out how to do a good high note." Ah, the joys of being a newbie!
