Kennedy Center – A Cultural Landmark of Excellence When you think of world-class performances, breathtaking architecture, and a place where the arts come to life, the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts instantly comes to mind. Located in Washington, D.C., this cultural hotspot has been entertaining and inspiring audiences since 1971. Whether you’re a lover of theater, music, dance, or simply someone who enjoys a good night out, the Kennedy Center has something for everyone. A Brief History (Don't Worry, It’s Interesting!) Back in the 1950s, the U.S. government decided that Washington, D.C., needed a performing arts center. Fast forward a bit, and in 1964, President Lyndon B. Johnson signed the bill to create what we now know as the Kennedy Center. It was named in honor of President John F. Kennedy, who was a big supporter of the arts (imagine a president who actually loved culture – wild, right?).
