But there's more to Mahomes than just his insane throwing ability — he's quickly become the face of the NFL and a name fans cheer (and some, unfortunately, boo) all across the country. A Star is Born Born in Tyler, Texas, Mahomes didn’t exactly have an ordinary childhood. His dad was a professional baseball player, so it’s safe to say young Patrick was probably destined for greatness — whether that was on the mound or the field. But as it turns out, the football field would be his stage. And what a stage it is! At Texas Tech, Mahomes showed off his arm strength, throwing passes that made people say, “Did he really just do that?” After a brief stint in college, the Kansas City Chiefs swooped him up in the 2017 draft, and boom—a star was born.
