Virginia McCaskey: NFL Royalty
Virginia McCaskey: NFL Royalty When you think of the Chicago Bears, a few names might come to mind—Walter Payton, Mike Ditka, or maybe even that one friend who won’t stop talking about the 1985 Super Bowl. But behind the scenes, there's one person who has been part of the team longer than almost anyone else: Virginia McCaskey. Who is Virginia McCaskey? Virginia McCaskey isn’t just any NFL owner—she’s practically NFL royalty. Born in 1923, she is the daughter of George Halas, the man who literally founded the Chicago Bears. (Imagine being able to say, “Oh yeah, my dad started an entire football team.”) At 101 years old (yes, you read that right), she is the oldest team owner in the NFL. And while most people her age are enjoying a peaceful retirement, Virginia is still deeply involved with the Bears. She took over ownership in 1983 after her father passed away, and since then, she has remained dedicated to keeping the team in the family.
