'Deli Boys' may have created a whole new kind of crime boss in Lucky Auntie

It's true, facts. I'm very curious to know where you drew inspiration from for Lucky Auntie

She's unlike any crime boss I've ever seen. I'm the mother to a teenage son, so right there, just to like rein them in

you gotta like tap into your inner gangster. and then right before I started shooting I was in a I was in Toronto at a Persian restaurant and

there was this Barsi uh mother next to me she was definitely my age but she had two much older sons

like late 20s and we struck up a conversation she was just lovely and lovely like Barsi just so

sweet and so lovely and um and then she turned around and like cleaned her kid's face after they

and I was like, oh my God, this woman is brilliant. So I based a lot of like lucky sweet sweet

and nurturing and over infantilizing her kids. And you know, that juxtaposed with like

her shooting someone in the head. This is a life of crime and the life of this deli Yeah it was a fraud a drug dealer and possibly a murderer Everybody got flaws Mir I love him even more knowing he wasn perfect

This show, I mean, you saw it. It's something unlike anything our community has had

in the comedy space, certainly. And I think it's going to be a..

I think hopefully it'll have a nice impact. Except when my dad sees my opening shot

When I read the pilot, I thought, this guy is uniquely talented

He's a genius. The way he's writing this world and these characters, I need to get in

Like, I need to be part of this. Yeah, and we saw it originally as a sample for him to staff

My producing partner, Nora Silver, and I read it. And we were like, no, we want to make this show

And the whole goal of our life is to find voices that are so fresh and so funny

And when I tell you, we read this and we're like, who the hell is this person

What is this? And, you know, we were just so excited. And you like well that show certainly doesn exist I mean we never seen characters like this portrayed by actors like this Each one of us is playing a character that we don normally get to play

And then on top of it being such a complex show with its comedy and drama and thriller

With all of it, it's just so special and so unique. So when I read the script, I was like, okay, I want in

So many of our faces are really, really fresh. And it's not that often on TV that you can make a discovery

So it's very hard to pick because we haven't seen these people before, most of them

Obviously, we've seen porno a hundred times, not as like a criminal mastermind

But I mean, I'm dying for people to see porno in that role

It's insane. And she's played a mother a lot. And it's really exciting to me that she's playing such a badass

and she gets to threaten people and shoot people and do like stunts

It's just really special to me. And I think everyone's going to freak out when they see it

You know, I did not have hearing Poorna Jagannathan kick ass on screen

and yelling, Aja Kutte on a Hulu show. To Tan, right? Aja Kutte

I did not have that on my bingo card this year. What was the most wildly fun thing you got to do on Daily Boys That 100 Kicking Tan France ass and then have him beg for his life was my favorite thing

Just so you know, that scene didn't have any dialogue. But the director was like, say whatever you want to say

And so naturally, my swears are in Hindi. And her swears are in Hindi

So they're like, just do it. If you swear in Hindi, swear in Hindi. And that particular episode I love because my staple, you know, I come from a very dramatic background in terms of just my acting, you know, my acting journey

And so I felt like that episode over any other episode had the weight of grief in it

Raj just cannot get over the grief. And he keeps seeing the ghost of his Baba everywhere

So just the episode had grief and intense comedy and hallucinations and hyper realism and violence and sweetness all packed into one

It's one of my favorite episodes. There's a gun in the credenza. Finish him off now
