Orangetheory for Beginners What to Expect from a 3-Year Member
Thinking about trying Orangetheory but feeling a little nervous? Don’t worry—you’re not alone! As a member for over three years, I know exactly how it feels to walk into your first class unsure of what’s coming. But trust me, once you get the hang of it, you’ll be hooked. So, what is Orangetheory? It’s a heart rate-based, full-body group workout that combines cardio, strength training, and rowing. Each class is one hour long and designed to keep your heart rate in the “orange zone” (84–91% of your max heart rate) for optimal calorie burn—even after class ends. What to expect as a beginner: You’ll start with a coach-led class where everything is clearly explained. There are three stations: treadmill, rowing, and the weight floor. Don’t worry if you’re not a runner—there are walking options, and the coaches always offer modifications. What to bring: Wear comfortable workout clothes, bring a water bottle, and be ready to sweat! Most studios provide heart rate monitors, but you can also buy your own. Tips from experience: Arrive early. Your coach will help set up your equipment and walk you through the basics. Don’t compare yourself. Everyone is at a different level, and that’s okay. Stay consistent. The first few classes might feel tough, but they get easier—and more fun.
