Back in September, I started noticing I was having a little tightness in my thighs, in
0:13
the thigh region. And so I like to jog. I'm pretty active
0:17
I like to dance. And I was trying to figure out what I could do to kind of help myself
0:23
I'd never been to the chiropractor before, and it had never been an issue in my past
0:27
So I actually went online, did a Google search, the joint chiropractor came up
0:35
And on their website, when I looked under the reviews, I didn't see anything alarming
0:41
But again, this was under their website. And so I was like, well, let me give it a try
0:46
It's not too far from my house. And so I went. Immediately when I went in, they told me, sign me up for like seven visits
0:57
I was like, okay, fine. I didn't know what to expect. During the time I was there, I was seen by three different chiropractors
1:07
The one in particular who caused the injury was Dr. Michael Jonesy
1:12
And so I saw him about three times total out of five visits
1:18
On this fifth visit, he was doing a right lumbar adjustment. And he came down the first time to adjust me
1:31
I heard the little snap, crackle, pop. When he came down the second time to adjust me, I immediately felt my rib cage flare up
1:39
into my side. Lost my breath. And I was like, I'm hurt
1:46
I'm hurt. I was injured. He proceeded to tell me to turn over to the left side so he could continue adjusting me
1:56
I repeated, I can't, I'm hurt. And at this time, my rib cage had already bolted and was sitting out
2:05
So I'm laying there. I'm holding my ribs steady, telling him, you know, I repeat it again, I'm hurt
2:12
I'm having a hard time breathing. He continues on. I lay there for a few minutes and then he tells me to get up
2:20
He's checking my legs. He's checking everything except my ribs. He's checking everything literally except the injury
2:29
So my son was there sitting behind me the entire time watching the whole thing
2:35
And I'm just like, he put his head down because he was just like, oh my God, this is going
2:39
really bad. So I told him a total of, I know, at least four times
2:46
I told him several times, even as he walked me to the door upon leaving, and I was holding
2:52
my left side at that time. I said, I'm hurt. He repeated to tell me every single time that I told him I was hurt
3:00
He said that happens sometimes. He said, take some ibuprofen. You'll be fine in two to three days
3:06
Well, not true. Two to three months later, still hurt, ribs still out
3:15
And from there, it's just been a nightmare. No one contacted me to check to see how I was doing
3:23
That was on October the 4th. October the 5th, that afternoon, I was in so much pain again, having a hard time breathing
3:31
I've never had any broken bones before or that type of injury
3:35
So I didn't know quite what I was feeling. I contacted them
3:40
When no one was answering the phone, I emailed them. And I was like, hey, I'm coming back up there because I need someone to check me to see
3:47
what's going on here. Went back up there around 11.30, noon-ish. Another chiropractor checked me, Dr. Baroque, if I'm pronouncing her name correctly
4:02
The minute she saw me and helped me onto the table, she looked at it and she was like
4:07
your bone is fractured. You need to go to the ER right now
4:12
Went to the ER. I was assured that someone from the company would reach out to me, contact me
4:20
Three weeks later, no contact, no nothing from the company, nothing from Dr. Jonesy
4:27
nothing from the corporate office, nothing from the owners. So at this point in time, I got so angry
4:33
It was October, I believe, about the 28th, and I reached out to them
4:40
I called the office and I was just like, hey, enough is enough. I said, I need the office manager's phone number
4:46
I need to speak with someone in corporate because I had been leaving messages for corporate
4:50
and not getting a response. And so I said, I need the owner's number
4:56
I need somebody's number. Like, who do you contact when there's an emergency at your office
5:02
So the office coordinator at that time told me she couldn't give me the owner's number
5:09
but she would have them contact me. I told her, you have like 24 hours to have someone give me a call back
5:16
Needless to say, the owner, Ms. Barb McNabb, had her clinical coordinator from another
5:26
location, from the League City location here in Texas, contact me. And he apologized for everything that happened, told me I just got in the wind of it
5:35
He wanted to check me and work with me. And so I agreed to go see him because at this point in time, nothing had been done
5:44
And so I went to go see him. That lasted about two and a half weeks, and then I pulled out of that situation because
5:51
I didn't like what I was hearing. When I went there, I was in the beginning told that they would do everything necessary
6:00
to ensure that I was okay. That included getting more x-rays or imaging
6:07
Needless to say, by week two, I started hearing, oh, well, if your ribs are broken, I can tell
6:14
you now surgery's not going to happen. Then I was told my lower rib cage was now curved
6:22
And he tried to tell me that that had to have occurred prior to me being adjusted
6:28
I've never had any issues, no multiple sclerosis, nothing that would cause that
6:34
I go to the doctor frequently. I get checked. Former dancer, and I'm just like, there's no way
6:43
I got told so many different things that added to the aggravation
6:47
Also, the day that I got injured by Dr. Jonsi, I remember him telling me
6:52
one leg, I have one leg that's shorter than the other. I'm like, die
7:00
Really? Never. I know physically one hand is bigger than the other, that type of thing, but I'm talking
7:08
about a limp type, one leg shorter than the other. I'm just like, no, that couldn't be further from the truth
7:17
So again, after I started seeing the other doctor at the League City location
7:24
after he proceeded to tell me my spine was now curved, he told me that my pelvis was tilted
7:31
And also my rib cage was tilted. I'm like, okay, now it's time
7:36
We need to get some tests. We need to get some imaging. When I advised him that I didn't want imaging from anyone they were affiliated with
7:45
for personal reasons, I wanted to go to a third party, that's when the meltdown came
7:50
And he was just like, you go get imaging, they're not going to be able to see anything
7:54
You get x-rays, they're not going to be able to see anything. And so that particular time, I was just like, okay, we're going to revisit this conversation
8:02
Few days later, I brought it up again. I said, I want to go to a specialist
8:09
I want to go and get checked. And he was like, we already had that conversation
8:14
And it turned into a whole gaslighting of, so you don't trust me, sir, I don't know you
8:21
I don't know any of you guys. I came in for a service that I trusted you, and now I'm injured
8:27
So needless to say, I didn't go back to see that doctor either
8:33
And at that point in time, he let me know that management would be in touch with me
8:37
Well, management turned out to be the owner. The owner, it took her another, initially, five or so days to contact me within that time frame
8:48
I made sure throughout this process, I've continuously contacted corporate, because if you don't, they'll tell corporate that they've spoken with you
8:58
and everything's fine, and they'll close it out. And I'm like, no, this is very open and far from being closed
9:05
So I contacted the doctor at the Leading City location again, and I was just like, hey, is there a contact
9:15
Name and number for your, whoever is supposed to contact me in management
9:18
because I still haven't heard from anyone. He messaged me back and told me, I've already told them to contact you
9:26
I'm like, okay. So as soon as I hung up with him, finally, the owners called
9:31
So now I'm in correspondence with the owners, and this is about the beginning of December
9:38
I want to say maybe December 4th. So now we've gone from October all the way through to December
9:45
And initially, the first thing out of her mouth was a little apology
9:54
and was like, well, we'll pay for your first doctor's visit, and then we need you to sign a release
10:01
And I was like, excuse me? Like, sign a release? Like, I said, we don't even know what's going on yet
10:07
And I was like, do you all expect me to pay for all these medical bills from the injury
10:12
And she was just like, oh, well, hold on, hold on, hold on. Wait a minute. So at that moment, I initially went ahead and scheduled to go to a specialist
10:22
So I went to go see a specialist, Dr. Bernal. He referred me then to see Dr. Folkman
10:30
which is the sports medicine doctor that is treating me now, who's treating me now
10:35
And that doctor ordered the imaging that was needed, because after the horror story that I told him of what I'd been going through
10:45
he was like, we need to get everything checked. My spine is fine
10:50
There's no impact to my spine. There's no impact to my spine
10:55
However, my posture is off my head, shoulders, my chest, my hips
11:03
and my knees are all shifted as a result of the adjustment
11:09
And also, he broke my ribs down the left side. They were indeed broken
11:16
And I sent all the information, all of medical reports and everything
11:22
to the owners. And so now at this point, as of Thursday, two weeks ago
11:31
so this Thursday will be two weeks ago, they sent me an email saying that they don't see any wrongdoing on their part
11:39
for anything that has taken place. So now I'm having to take further steps
11:44
I have filed a complaint with the medical board against Dr. Jonesy
11:49
And from there, this is an ongoing process. I don't even want an apology from them at this point
11:58
I want them to be responsible and accountable. I want them to take care of the past medical bills
12:05
I want them to take care of the current medical bills. And given how the situation has been handled and all the pain that
12:14
I've had to go through that they're not concerned about mentally and physically and having to readjust my life
12:22
there should be a payout for pain and suffering. In the beginning for me, this was not, it wasn't about any of that
12:32
It was about wanting them to apologize, take accountability and say, hey, we got you covered
12:38
We're going to take care of the medical bills because it's the right thing to do
12:43
For you to leave someone stuck out here, they have no idea how all these medical bills are affecting my life
12:52
I have a daughter in college right now. It's like, it's an inconvenience for me
12:57
And then to them, they just get to walk out scot-free. Why? Because you're the bigger company, because you have the money
13:05
It's not fair. And I believe something needs to be changed as far as medical malpractice
13:12
and the way things are happening in today's world. I have spoken with more than two dozen attorneys at this point in time
13:21
Malpractice in the state of Texas is very hard to prove. Yes, I can go after them for personal injury because that's the first thing anyone says
13:29
when this story is shared with them. They're like, so legally, I know you're going to sue, right
13:35
Well, it's not that easy, guys. And I believe that for the most part is why they do what they do
13:42
because they know the majority of the time they're able to get away with it
13:47
But I appreciate you all for reaching out to me and allowing me to have a voice
13:53
so that this doesn't happen to anyone else
