Fyre Festival 2 postponed after permit drama, no confirmed lineup

Remember the music festival that promised private islands and luxury villas, but delivered cheese sandwiches and FEMA tents instead

Well, Fire Festival was making a comeback until it wasn't. The sequel to one of the most infamous flops in festival history has officially been postponed

This comes just weeks after tickets went on sale for its planned return to Mexico, with prices ranging from $1,400 to a jaw-dropping $1.1 million

According to ABC News, organizers say the event isn't canceled, just delayed

It was originally slated for May 30 to June 2, though no musical acts have been confirmed

Billy McFarlane, the face behind the festival, is still involved. The 2017 disaster was marketed as a luxury experience but quickly unraveled when guests arrived to chaos, no water, no artists, no infrastructure and no way home

The backlash led to multiple lawsuits and McFarland's arrest on wire fraud charges

He was sentenced to six years in prison in order to pay $26 million in restitution

He was released in 2022. also changed originally Harris but it was quietl by the end of March But officials in Playa del Carmen pushed back saying there were no approved permits or plans for such an event

One translated post from the local government on X stated, there is no registration, planning, or conditions that indicate the realization of such an event in the municipality

In response, the fire team claimed they had been working with government officials since early March

and denied the reports were accurate. Our relationships with Playa may be new

but I know I speak for the rest of the team when I say we couldn't ask for a better group of people

However, McFarland held a press conference March 27th with the event's new production and hospitality partners

to assure that everything was running smoothly. I have a long road ahead to attempt to make right for all these wrongs

And that is why I'm here. I'm not here to make excuses

I'm here to take the action and effort and to stop at absolutely nothing to make things right

Interestingly, McFarlane, usually quick to post festival updates, hasn't directly addressed the new postponement

ABC News reports that at least one ticket holder received an email saying the event has been postponed and a new date will be announced

We have issued you a refund. Once the new date is announced at that time, you can repurchase if it works for your schedule

So while the fire hasn't been completely put out, it's definitely on pause for now
