Warriors’ Green believes ‘angry Black man’ agenda leads to technicals

If there's any controversy involving the Golden State Warriors, you can be pretty sure future Hall of Famer Draymond Green is right in the center of it

Thursday night, after a 1-17-93 loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves in the NBA playoffs, frustrations boiled over

Green was called for a technical in the second quarter after being fouled by T-Wolves forward Nas Reid

While trying to sell the original foul, he flailed his arms, hitting Reid in the face

The refs reviewed the play and upheld the technical. Green's teammates then had to hold him back as he screamed in an official's face

After the game, he made one quick comment to a beat writer suggesting that he believes his reputation is costing him

Man, I'm not an angry black man. I'm a very successful, educated black man with a great family

And I'm great at basketball. I'm great at what I do. The agenda to try to keep making me look like an angry black man is crazy

I'm sick of it. It's ridiculous. Green also had an interaction with a fan during the game

A video on social media shows him jawing back and forth with someone before the fan was ejected for yelling what team security called a racial slur at Green

Warrior star Jimmy Butler agrees Green's reputation is a factor. I thought he got fouled and maybe he was trying to sell the call

And it's our job to try to help him stay poised, stay composed

But the competition is so meaningful to him that, you know, occasionally he goes over the line

That's where the debate comes in. Green has had numerous incidents and punishments over the years

Is his reputation well-deserved? During the 2016 NBA Finals, he had to sit out a game for having too many technicals

In 2022, he punched teammate Jordan Poole at practice. He was fined and took a leave of absence

In 2023, he was suspended for five games for putting Timberwolves center Rudy Gobert in a headlock

And one month after that infraction, he was suspended indefinitely for hitting Sun center Youssef Nurkic in the head

All told, he's been suspended six times in his career. Green is one of the greatest defensive players of all time and the Warriors need his presence now more than ever because of guard Steph Curry's hamstring injury

Will he be able to hold it together to keep Golden State in their series with the T-Wolves
