Food Waste Supermarket in Germany

an excess of production or supply now i've made countless and countless of videos about

surplus foods and repurposed foods and now I finally found a surplus supermarket

We definitely have to check this out. All right so he says on their website we save excess food that is just before

or after the best before date or does not meet the norm

Right, now on the price tags, it states how much you're actually saving, how much discount

you're making by shopping here. Okay, so this will mostly comprise of excess wonky or unsold foods from the manufacturers

Say you walk into a supermarket and you want to buy a lemon

Now you see two lemons on the shelf. This perfectly looking lemon or this one key weirdly shaped lemon Most people would go for this leaving this to go to waste So now what the manufacturers do is they get rid of this before it gets to the supermarket because they know the wholesalers the retailers wouldn want to buy this

So they just get rid of this and take these to the supermarket. So if they grow 10 lemons and 6 of them look like this and 4 look like these

these end up in a waste and these come straight to you so now what this amazing place does is it

rescues this from the manufacturers and offers it to you so you can help reduce food waste

and you can save some money as well so now what happens is people tend to blame the manufacturers or the supermarkets for this

problem this food waste problem but they only supply to the demand so if people reject wonky

vegetables and fruits they don't collect them they don't buy them they don't accept them because they

want to give you what you want so it's not really their problem it's us we are picking we are telling

them which ones to throw away and which ones to bring to us like this wonky shaped pepper and this

normal looking pepper. We basically tell the supermarkets by not picking this, that this

is what we want. This is what we demand. This is what they need to stock their shelves with

And by doing that they waste all of this So really it starts with us We create the demand for the supermarkets to supply for the wholesalers to supply So now you probably wondering how do these compare to your everyday supermarket in terms of prices

So we're going to pick five items and then take them to another supermarket and compare the prices

See if you're saving money and saving the planet. Okay so soymilk for 1 euro 34 is on 33% so we're gonna compare this to your

average supermarket maybe Lidl or Aldi the cheap ones and see how they compare

see how much you're saving. Packet crisp for 48 cents. Yoghurt for 78 cents

A pack of kiwi for €1.97. A pot of porridge for 77 pence

There's no place on earth I would rather be Alright, so I've calculated how much money I've saved from shopping at Surplus

with all their 60 off and 80 off and then the result is going to be on screen somewhere All right now we gonna head in here and compare some prices all right so i think it fair to say surplus the supermarket saves you money and saves the

planet now the thing is at the end of the day we're all in this together we have one planet

we have one home we have one shot now the way we take care of it determines the future and it starts

with the choices we make the products we buy how they impact the home the only home we have

we don't have the resources yet to go out like let's we need to start making conscious decisions

to make a little difference in the right direction surplus save some money and help save the planet

as well. I have to say I'm enjoying it in Germany so far. I'm very very impressed by their efforts

to reduce food waste, save the planet, just awareness everywhere. All right that's going
