Where BF Goodrich KO2 is an All-Terrain tire while the Nitto Ridge Grappler is a hybrid. A hybrid, sometimes also called rugged terrain, is simply a mixture of two tires, where it has bulky shoulders of a Mud tire and at the same time has compact blocks arrangement in the middle, like an All-Terrain tire. Both tires have staggered shoulders but the ones on the Nitto Ridge are more prominent. Nitto Ridge also features dual sidewall design with bulkier lugs where BF Goodrich KO2's has less thicker lugs but they still paste on large surface area. These lugs help when the tire faces flexing sidewalls, as they grab and pull (when the tire pressure is lowered). Other than this both tires offer numerous biting edges, where the KO2 has more prominent ones of the shoulder blocks and the Nitto Ridge's features them more in the middle. Nitto Ridge, the varying width and length of its shoulder blocks create a clear zig zag longitudinal path of grooves, separating the tire’s central area. In the middle, the tire features a versatile pattern. It has sharp triangular shaped blocks, where the two on sides have deep incisions in them and the other two like the rest, are seen with rectilinear siping and off set edges on all of its sides. All these blocks also have reinforced foundations underneath, so they form stepped edges on all these blocks giving this tire a more biting capability. They also make slanted Z shaped grooves, so the tire is able to grip in all directions. Overall, the Nitto Ridge Grappler features a wider groove, so the tire provides less contact with the road. And despite having variable pitch technology the tire is also louder. If we look at other factors, like the fuel economy and wear, again KO2 comes out better as the tire has a harder compound in comparison and is lighter in weight. Both tires have 3 ply polyester casing having 2 ply steel belts which are then wrapped with 2 layers of nylon. So, they both protect the tire including its most venerable part, the sidewalls. But still the Nitto Ridge Grappler is 7 pounds heavier on average. And the tire has 97 total sizes where the BFG KO2 provides you with 89. So overall it's pretty safe to say that KO2 is a more on road-oriented tire, where Nitto Ridge Grappler provides you with better off road performance, well except for snow. As BF Goodrich is also branded with 3 peak mountain snowflake rating unlike the Nitto Ridge Grappler. Other than this, with wider grooves, softer compound and multiple biting edges the Nitto Ridge comes out better in almost all sorts of other terrains. So, what do you think? Do tell in the comments.
