How the Irish make fun of their heroes (comical statues)

The Irish love their national heroes…but they love poking fun at them even more. And the bigger they are, the harder they fall. It seems you can’t have a statue in your honour in Dublin without the locals giving you a comical nickname. Discover who’s been labelled the prick with the stick…the floozie in the jacuzzi…the flirt in the skirt, the hags with the bags…the mockery goes on. Some jibes are very un-PC but this is the everyday language of Dublin streets and it’s all good craic. It’s witty and irreverent every time, much to the delight of comedian Billy Connolly who said he loves the Dublin banter and disrespect for powerful and prominent figures.
