#cooperruggedtrek #coopertires #mickeythompson #mickeythompsonbajabossat #ruggedterrain #offroad #offroadtires Cooper Rugged Trek and Mickey Thompson Baja Boss A/T are both part of a same company, and looking at their design it makes sense. They are both although marketed as all-terrain, they are from rugged terrain family, mostly known as hybrids. That’s because although they have closed up central blocks like all-terrain, their shoulder lugs resemble those you see on mud tires, as they have larger tread voids. Still in comparison, the Cooper Rugged Trek is not as aggressive. Even though the tire features dual sidewalls, with thick enough lugs, they are still not as powerful as the Baja Boss A/t from both inside and out. As on that tire, from outside, you get to have powerful slanted V shaped biters which present better sidewall flexing when aired down to a lower air pressure. And from inside, the tire features 3 ply polyester casing with construction that you mostly see on mud terrain tires. Similarly in the middle part of the tread, the tire features multiple biters. Here you basically see two ribs where on one, you have blocks with chambered edges, notches, sharp triangular biters, and supporting ridges. And on the other, along with all of those features, you also have lateral and longitudinal slits, providing more randomness to Its already asymmetric structure and with it a superior off-road bite. It’s full depth interlocking sipes, which go all the way deep down to the base also are capable of splitting open the lugs, where needed, adding to that biting power. On the other side, the Cooper Rugged Trek is although weaker, the smaller number of plies make it a lot lighter. It’s heaviest weight with F load rating weighs only 70 pounds, that’s 20 pounds lighter on the same size and rating on Baja Boss A/T. So, it gets to provide a better fuel efficiency, and along with it a longer tread life. Though tread life also depends on tread depth and of course composition, and although both tires feature similar tread depth across all sizes the Cooper Rugged Trek has a more rigid composition, allowing it to last longer, and that’s why you also get 5k more miles warranty with this tire. However, with stiffer compound, its wet traction suffers a little bit, whereas Mickey Thompson AT provides better efficacy. As sipes work by sucking water particles in, they need to have the flexibility. And so with more number of sipes and an elastic compound, the Baja boss A/T provides better handling times on wet roads. The Cooper Rugged Trek on the other side, is better in dry conditions, where it’s stiffer compound and rounded contact path allows more of it’s rubber to be in contact with the road forming a stable connection. The tire also provides Whisper Groove Technology, where it places ridges in between the shoulder lugs, restricting too much air to get in and hit around, which is actually how most of the tread noise gets generated. However, still with such wider shoulder gaps, the tire still gets to be louder in comparison. That’s because the asymmetric design of Mickey Baja Boss A/T provides better pitch sequencing, where the varying geometry of the haphazardly placed blocks create different pitches at different areas, and those don’t get to amplify together, keeping it’s grooves quieter. These randomly arranged lugs also offers superior grip on snow as well, though both tires are 3pmsf rated. If we talk about snow, both tires are although symbolized with 3PMSF ratings, the Baja Boss A/T provides much better design here as well, as it offers much better snow grabbing capabilities as well. Baja Boss A/T basically provides a heavier weight, skinnier tread, and a lot more biters comparatively. All of these features are designed to enforce more pressure on the snow, grabbing it in grooves and making snow to snow contact which yields better results. Lastly if we talk tire sizes. The Mickey Thompson Baja Boss A/T comes in total of 59 sizes in 15 to 24 inches, whereas the Cooper Rugged Trek only comes in just 18, with 16 to 20 inches rim diameters. And those have the following specifications. Thanks for watching, and Subscribe for our upcoming ones. Till Next time.
