Usually, we make this simple type of kootu for dinner or as an extra accompaniment for a meal. Usually, we make kootu using raw tomato, thakkali kai kootu. This one is using ripe tomato. A friend recently shared about making kootu using ripe tomato. When you are running out of veggies at home this can be made just with tomatoes and moong dal. This Thakkali kootu can be mixed with rice or as an accompaniment for Vatha kuzhambu or Puli kuzhambu. You can make this in our Poricha kootu style or in Molagootal style too.
