Plese subscribe and hit like button so it could reach as many people as possible (if you like the video). The Goodyear DuraTrac, although is marketed as All Terrain, it’s a hybrid tire, meaning it carries shoulder blocks of a mud tire while its middle stays all terrain. The wider lateral grooves between the shoulder blocks provide efficient mud evacuation, while the compact blocks arrangement in the middle with offset sharp edges, cut through the mud. The tire also offers tractive groove technology where mini tread blocks hidden in the grooves break down the mud particles as they are forced out. Falken Wildpeak AT3w on the other hand, provides a compact blocks arrangement, so mud can’t get evacuated through it efficiently. The tire does not offer staggered shoulder blocks, where it’s sharp edges just provide digging and you don’t want that on this type of terrain, you need forward momentum. Moreover, the Goodyear Duratrac has serrated shoulder blocks, and thicker sidewall lugs which act as traction scoops and help the tire out when aired down deep in mud. In comparison Falken Wildpeak’s sidewalls lugs, are although not so good for mud, they sure are great for rocks, as they cover larger sidewall area, so these lugs grab and pull more when you pressure down the tire to a lower PSI. Speaking of rocks, Falken Wildpeak does things much better here. It offers numerous biting edges, in the form of ramps and notches seen in the middle on Z and C shaped blocks. They are also seen on shoulder blocks as well, and all of them clamp on to the surface of the rocks with superb friction. Goodyear Duratrac on the other side, provides bigger grooves mouth which provides similar traction, but the tire lacks in the durability department which is highly crucial on rocks. Its inner construction consists of 2 ply polyester casing which has 2 running steel belts reinforced by 2 ply nylon. In case of Falken Wildpeak, although you get a similar inner construction, the sidewalls have 2 more layers of polyamide running around the bead, so in a way, it provides 4 ply construction, while Duratrac offers just 2. So, with Wildpeak you protect the weakest part of the tire in a better way, which provides off road confidence. Similarly, in case of snowy terrains, the Falken Wildpeak again does things better, despite both of them branded with 3 pmsfr. Its durable construction makes it heavier and with that the tire puts more pressure on the snow, lodging it in its grooves and providing better snow to snow contact. In case of on road performance, Falken Wildpeak AT3w again does better. On dry roads, the tire offers good rubber to road contact with compact blocks arrangement, and high stability, as all blocks have foundations supports keeping them firm. The Goodyear Duratrac, on the other hand, although provides reinforced foundations and compact central blocks placement in the middle, the wider shoulder grooves compromises on grip a lot, and makes this one of the loudest all terrain tire that you can get. Same is the case on wet roads, where the Goodyear Duratrac, although features full depth siping, they are less in number as most of the rubber area is already taken away with tread voids, so wet traction becomes limited.
