See the video for a full reading of the poem.
Do Not stand at My Grave and Weep is one of the most inspirational and uplifting of all funeral poems. For many years, no one was sure who had written it, or who they wrote it for, until American author Abigail van Buren carried out some research.
The poem has since become woven into popular culture, and even featured in the American TV series Desperate Housewives in Karen McCluskey’s tribute to Ida. It has also been set to music by internationally acclaimed composers like Howard Goodall, and performed as a song by Katherine Jenkins, Mairead Farrell and others.
It remains popular today, with its positive message of living on through the natural world providing comfort and solace to those who are grieving.
