While these All-Terrain tires make you sacrifice some comfort on road, their adaptability to various terrains really make up for it. And that’s because they are built tough. BFG says it's their toughest tire ever, but how would it performed against the Falken Wildpeak AT3w? Well, to answer this, we looked deep into their designs... First off starting with their inner construction both tires are very durable. Here the BF Goodrich KO2 has 3 ply polyester casing/sidewalls. But the Falken Wildpeak has 2 extra layers of polyamide running around the tires rim so here the tire gets a 4-layer sidewall construction protecting its sides. (Falken Wildpeak also has heat diffusers on the sidewalls as well) If we look at their tread pattern the BFG KO2 offers you with more aggressive shoulders in comparison. They have deep cuts/notches in them, and they are staggered with "traction" scoops. (Which lets the tire escape when aired down deep in mud) On BFG KO2, you see multiple variations of deep cuts, allowing this tire to shed more dirt out of its way. While the bold stone ejectors combined with the triangular ones that are strategically placed between the tread blocks, expel more debris that would otherwise lodge itself in between. On the other hand, the Falken Wildpeak has varying width shoulder blocks. They are not staggered but have sharp edges on the outer sides. While their inner sides have notches and stepped edges. The tire also offers deeper tread blocks (1.6mm deeper) and they are able to pass more mud through the voids. In the middle… On Falken Wildpeak AT3w there are prominent Z shaped blocks which show sharp edges and are further surrounded by others with incisions in them. On the other side, with KO2 the tire shows a uniform block arrangement in an interlocking fashion. So how do these tires perform on road? Well, with KO2's aggressive design, the tire offers less area in contact with the road. With the wider grooves the overall grip is compromised. So Falken Wildpeak with its more compact blocks especially in the shoulders, provides better handling times in both wet and dry roads. Why Shoulders? Well, because when it comes to cornering the tire sides come into action. And KO2 with its bolder stone ejectors does not allow great contact, in comparison. But the difference is very little. In terms of off road? Both tires are also great here. Both of them have 3PMSF rating and are just amazing on snow. Both tires are also great in rocks dirt and gravel. The BF Goodrich KO2 with its stiffer sidewalls just lacks a little behind on rocky terrains and sand when it comes to incline traction test. Where Falken Wildpeak AT3w lacks behind the KO2 in gravel/dirt testing. But still overall, the difference is miniscule. So, what’s the verdict: Wildpeak with 3W had a mission of Wet/Wear/Winter performance. And the tire really excels in all. The BFG KO2 on the other hand could use some on road wet traction. But the tire is truly a king of off road. Also special thanks to "Soul Proud" for giving us a nice beat for our videos. Music Info: Groove Day - Soul-Prod Music.
