Tomato 2 big
Onion 1
Coconut 1 tblsp
Roasted gram | chutney dal 1 tsp
Green chili 1-2
Turmeric powder 1/4 tsp
Oil 3 tsp
Mustard seeds 1/4 tsp
Urad dal 1/2 tsp
Asafoetida 2 pinches
Curry leaves few
Method:
Cut the tomato into two. In a pan add water and cook the tomatoes for 10 minutes.
Once the skin starts peeling off, switch off the flame.
Take out the skin and allow this to cool completely.
Slice the onions finely.
Grind the coconut, green chili and coconut into a fine paste.
You can add little water while grinding.
Grind the tomatoes into a smooth paste.
In a pan add oil and add in the mustard seeds, urad dal and asafoetida.
When the dal turns brown add the chopped onions.
When the onions becomes translucent, add the ground tomato paste.
Add the ground coconut paste to this.
Add salt and turmeric powder.
Mix well.
Let this cook for 5 minutes.
Switch off and add the curry leaves.
Tomato gotsu| thakkali kichidi is ready to serve.
This goes well with idli, dosa, pongal and chapathi too.
