A solid gamer headset for a surprisingly low price. Let's check it out
0:12
Could you see that? Oh, man. All right, fine. I'm out. Catch you later
0:16
Oh, Dave Taylor here, and I'm checking out this. This is the Turtle Beach Recon 500 headset, and it's pretty darn sweet
0:25
Features 60mm Eclipse dual drivers, and even has a master volume control on the left earpiece
0:33
and has noise-canceling microphone, which is easy. You can remove it if you want
0:38
And it has a nice big mute button on the ear. It makes it real easy to work with
0:43
It's a pretty lightweight design. It's pretty comfortable. It doesn't smash your head like some, where you feel like you're in a vice grip
0:52
And it's also glasses-friendly. The way they designed it is that if you have to wear glasses, no worry
0:58
These will not push against the beams on the side, because that really stinks, and they know that
1:03
So they got you covered. They also have memory foam ear cushions, so really, they're pretty darn comfortable
1:09
There's also some memory foam up here, and it's a steel reinforced band. You think you can see that there
1:16
And they actually are pretty sweet. Now, I wanted to give you a quick demo of the actual microphone
1:23
So give me a second, and I'll spin some things around and plug some things in
1:27
and then you'll be able to hear what this sounds like to someone on the other end of your dogfight or battle
1:32
or, of course, if you're just talking to someone on a Zoom call. So, give me a sec
1:37
So this is what it sounds like when I talk through the Turtle Beach Recon 500 headset
1:42
I'm using Audacity to record my audio, and you can hear it's a pretty clean sound
1:48
And you can tell that I'm using these headphones, because if I push on that mute button
1:56
and when I push it again, I'm back. So that's pretty straightforward. Cool
2:00
Now, let me jump on camera again. Pretty straightforward, actually. So it works with any system that uses a 3.5 millimeter jack
2:09
because that's how they all work. There's actually a lot of compatibility
2:12
So you can use this with Mac, with Windows, with a Chromebook, with a tablet
2:18
If you have a smartphone that actually has a 3.5 millimeter jack, these will work with that
2:23
Of course, what you really want to do, most likely, is use them with some sort of gaming device
2:28
And they are super compatible across everything. PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, Xbox One
2:38
obviously the Nintendo Switch. All of these are compatible with this device
2:43
and it all sounds really good, and you're going to sound really good, and at a budget price
2:49
So, what are my issues with this? What do I not like about it
2:53
Well, it feels a little bit budget in terms of its overall finish
2:59
The top headband, not super thrilled with. And I have to say that I feel like the wire is a little short
3:07
It's just a bit over four feet long. And I think maybe adding another foot or two would have been really easy for them
3:13
and would have made these a little bit more comfortable. If you are playing, and you move around, or you need to spin to like grab a beverage or something, whatever
3:22
it's a little bit short as a cable. I will, however, say that it is a braided fabric cable
3:28
and it actually feels really nice, and it has a ton of flexibility
3:34
But, you know, that's about all I have to say. Negative. Positive. It sounds really good
3:40
In fact, just in terms of these being like for listening to music or something
3:45
I was listening to some, you know, really exotic electronic music, and it sounded, you know, just fantastic
3:52
Really terrific. There's a big soundstage. There's a lot of precision to this
3:56
and they're a little bass-heavy, but that's exactly what you want for something designed for gaming
4:02
So, you can get these, and you can use these for your next Zoom call, or your Skype meeting, or something like that
4:09
and they'll work well, and you'll sound good, and then you can plug them into your Switch
4:14
or to some other gaming device, and just rock out and have a great time
4:18
So, lots to like here. Definitely worth checking out. Now, before I tell you the price, I'm going to ask, if you don't mind, go ahead and click and subscribe to my channel
4:27
Appreciate when you do that. And leave me a comment if you want. Tell me what else you wish I would have covered, or what you appreciate that I did cover in this review
4:35
All right. So, these are, this is, the Turtle Beach Recon 500 headset
4:41
It comes in black, or there's a really cool Arctic camo, which I kind of wish they would have sent me instead
4:47
but I'll live with these. In both cases, they're $79.99 at Amazon.com
4:53
which is a pretty solid price for something with this quality of audio reproduction
4:58
this level of flexibility, and this level of comfort. They're pretty dang comfortable
5:03
So, these would make a great gift if you have a teen or someone in your family who's big into gaming
5:10
No one complains when they get a second headset, because you never know when you need to switch to a backup
5:15
So, definitely one worth checking out. I got to get back to my game
5:19
so I will have to plug into my Switch, and I will have to catch up with you in my next video
5:28
Thanks for watching
