Welcome back, everybody. Today I'm back with three different egg poachers to see how they really work
0:04
I've got kind of a variety of different types here. So let's take a closer look at these three contestants
0:08
This is the Eggland egg poacher by Ototo. I paid about 12 bucks. It's the lowest of the bunch. It has about a 3.8 star rate on Amazon as of this time
0:17
All you do is put the egg in there, put in a pot of boiling water, and supposedly you have a poached egg
0:21
Now on Amazon, people who like it, they love the cute design. They say it does indeed create poached eggs
0:26
People who didn't like it, some people said it took a lot of trial and error to get it right
0:30
Others said it was kind of slow. Some people said that you can only make one egg at a time
0:34
And some people said it sticks even with spray. Next up, this is the Scoo Egg Poaching Cup. It came in a four pack
0:41
This one can supposedly be used on the stove, microwave, or instant pot
0:45
They say it's sturdy, well made. Includes handles, unlike other egg poachers
0:48
People on Amazon who like it, some people said it's easy to clean. Others said it makes perfect poached eggs
0:54
Those who didn't like it, some people said it cooked unevenly. Others said it tips over or water got into the cups
0:59
or egg white spilled into the water. We shall see about that one. Now this is kind of the wild card
1:04
This is the microwave egg cooker and poacher. I paid about 30 bucks for this one
1:08
It's the highest rate of the bunch. It's got about a 4.3 star rate on Amazon
1:12
It's also on Amazon's choice. Now the curious thing about this one is the Amazon listing says egg poacher
1:17
The instructions say it's an egg fryer. So I'm not even sure if it's gonna poach eggs or not
1:21
But the claims are that can poach, fry, or scramble eggs. is good for small kitchens, new homes, dorms, RVs, silicone handles, nonstick surface
1:29
On Amazon, those who like it, a lot of people praise it for simplicity, versatility, and speed it
1:33
which it makes eggs. Those who didn't like it, some people said it doesn't really speed up the process at all
1:42
All right, so I think what I'm going to do is start off with the weirdest one first
1:46
So the instructions say to put a layer of oil or butter in the unit itself
1:50
Boil water to a gentle boil, put it and cover it for five to five to seven. seven minutes. Now people on Amazon were saying the times varied a lot for them. Some people said
1:58
as low as six minutes. Some people said as high as 12 minutes. So I'm going to kind of go in
2:02
the middle, go around seven minutes and see how it goes. All three of these are going to be probably trial and error. So the first round may not be very good, but I'm going to show you my results no
2:08
matter what. First thing I'm going to do, based on the instructions, I'm going to spray this pretty heavily and make sure it nice and sprayed because some people were saying that it stuck even when it was sprayed We got a lot of oil in there All right here we got I going to looked it by the palm tree I guess I can So they say put it in there for I gonna go seven minutes
2:27
And cover and that's it. Timer is going. So let's, uh, I'll be
2:33
I'll be really curious how this looks. We are ready. See we got here
2:44
That seems kind of hot to pick that up, I'm going to use a spoon. It looks poached, but we shall see
2:55
Let's cut it open and see what we got. I'm not totally convinced yet. I think I need to go a little bit longer
3:00
You can see those whites are a little bit runny, so I'm going to say no on that. Maybe I need to try to again go longer
3:06
The good news is that it didn't stick in there. That was some people had a problem with that
3:09
I didn't have a problem. Of course, I was pretty ample on my spray on there. I'm going to try what someone on Amazon did
3:15
they put it in there and turn the water off and let us sit for 10 minutes we'll see how that goes
3:19
If not, I'll keep trying. Here we go. Now according to these instructions, you put it in there, cover it, turn the heat off, and let us set for 10 minutes
3:29
So we're going to try that and see how it goes. All right, here we go
3:33
Let's see how's it look. Maybe it's done. Let's see. Let's get that out of there and see if it's actually poached
3:39
The spoon technique seems to be working for all of them. Let's see what we got here
3:43
This is much better consistency than the first round. So I think the person that said to let this sit in their water without boiling
3:50
may have been on to something. All right, it's a little more set than maybe I would have liked
3:56
but it certainly has a poached feel to it. Some people like that texture
4:00
It's more of a medium firmness, but I think that technique worked pretty well
4:04
So far, I think that's better than the first one. The first one was too runny. This one is a little more firm
4:08
Maybe if I take it out earlier, it would work better. But I do think that that technique seems like
4:13
it's a little bit better than the first one. So I'm not quite sure I got the results I want
4:17
I'm going to try it one more time and see if I can get it right. Here we go. We're going along
4:22
this time. I were at nine minutes. Let's see how this goes. That's what we've got. Let's take it
4:28
out of there. Oh, it broke. I think that's in the realm of poached. Not bad, really. I would say
4:35
yeah I would call that a poached egg I still think that after several attempts I haven got it quite perfect I think I can get better I mean it getting better but I don think I quite there yet
4:49
All right, let's try this in the microwave, shall we? Now, they do have microwave instructions here
4:54
So they say to spray the nonstick cooking spray into the cup and then crack an egg in there
4:59
And for the microwave, you're supposed to use these lids. These are only for the microwave, and that's what I'm going to do
5:03
The lids are only for the microwave though, so we'll put that there
5:08
I think that's all we're supposed to do. They say place it in the microwave and test different powers
5:12
So we want to three minutes. So I'm going to split right in the middle and go too and see what happens
5:16
Nothing more interesting than an egg in the microwave. And we're off
5:21
We shall see. We're 30 seconds in. I'm already hearing a lot of activity in there
5:26
It doesn't sound good. Oh, that's bad. That is not good. Look that
5:29
I'm already seeing egg just... Oh! That's it. Wow. That is a no go on that one. Whoa. It's everywhere. That's bad. Okay
5:41
I'm going to say no to the microwave poaching. Some people on Amazon said that happened to them. It happened to me
5:46
It's already disqualified from the microwave, but we still have the stove to do, so hopefully it works better there
5:51
Well, that's a disaster. Not good. Wow. Okay. Now I got to clean that up too. Terrible
5:57
Look at this everywhere. It's everywhere. Not good. I'm gonna miss. All right, so clearly it's not good for the microwave, but how about the stove top
6:06
Their instructions say five minutes, people on Amazon say seven to ten. Since I have extras, I'm gonna do it both ways
6:11
I'm gonna try one for five minutes, one for about eight. We'll see which one's better
6:16
Alright, here we go. Now they say to have about an inch of water and you want this to basically be touching the bottom
6:22
so it doesn't tip over. And it seems like they are. So I'm gonna put the pink one in for five and the green one in for eight, and we'll see how it goes
6:28
And we're off. Alright, it's a five minute mark. Let's take the pink one out and see how that looks
6:35
Well, the handle is, it's pretty hot. It's pretty hot. Alright, here we go
6:38
Five minutes. See, we got. There's the five minute poached egg. Let's cut it open
6:45
I don't think, I think five minutes is not enough. It is not enough
6:49
That is not done. All right, we're down the last few seconds of the eight minute one
6:53
A lot of people said that there's tipped over. I didn have that problem I guess because it supposed to touch the bottom Maybe theirs weren touching the bottom I not sure why there tipped over And it done Here we go eight minutes And the handle once again
7:06
is pretty hot. It should be to just dump it right out. It looks more formed than the first one did
7:14
Now that looks, that looks more like it, I think. That was the five minute, that was the eight
7:19
minute. What do you guys think? There's the due contestants, five minutes on the right, eight minutes on the left. That seems much better to me
7:26
And now for the big wild card here. Is this going to be a friar or a poacher? We shall see
7:36
Now the first step is to preheat it for two to three minutes. Two minutes and then we get started
7:43
Now they say to lightly oil it. That's what we got. And let's cover it up. Put in the microwave
7:50
We're going to go two minutes. They say two to three. I'm going to go on the low side because you never know
7:54
Here we go. Well, it didn't explode. That's a good thing. All right, I kind of kind of hear a sizzling in there
8:00
So that's a good or a bad sign. At this point, I don't, I'm not taking anything as a good sign at this point
8:05
Here we go. Let's see. Let's see if I can get these out of there and see what we got. It seems like the spoon is the way to go to get this out of here
8:12
There's a final result. Is it poached or is it a fried over easy egg? That is the question
8:17
It doesn't really have the consistency of a poached egg to me, though. It's good
8:22
It's certainly edible. but I don't, is a poached? I'm not sure
8:27
I would say that that is the egg white of a fried egg and not a poached egg
8:31
I don't think that's really a poacher. That'd be great for a breakfast sandwich. I just don't think you can consider that poached
8:36
It doesn't seem poached to me. All right, so let's take a look at all three of these, shall we now, as far as the egg cooker goes
8:42
This is more of an egg cooker, I really wouldn't call it as an egg poacher
8:46
The results weren't really like poached eggs. The instructions don't want any mention poach eggs
8:49
even though they do on Amazon. So to me, this is not even an egg poacher. I'd say the skew was probably the bowed
8:54
best of these three had had the most poach-like egg results although I would say the
8:58
microwave option is a no-go that was a disaster and finally this one the O Toto I
9:03
really like the design of it it's just pretty cool it's not perfect I feel like I was
9:07
getting there I was getting close I never quite got there I feel like I still had some more a trial and error to do I do think you can get post eggs out of here but it's a
9:14
little bit more work but that's all I've got if you try to these three tell me you think in the comments below I appreciate you watching and I'll see you next time
